Practically asked to give a job to another Managers family member

I once lost out to a job and it went to the son of the best friend of the manager of the person interviewing me (someone else in the company told me about this) - so it does happen I'm afraid0

Personally, I'd tell him that if I wanted someone who knew how to flip burgers I'd have posted the ad in MaccyDs - what I was after was an experienced professional in X and that's what I am going to a - get and b - pay for.
And as I outrank him by 2 levels, I am forwarding his email to his manager and to HR and letting them deal with this harassment just in case he is also using these techniques with other staff members within the company.
Yes the person I take on would report to me.
And yes once again you are right he has three other members of his family working downstairs.
I don't know what or how he managed that but he has meet his match if he think's I will do the same.
The best person for the job will get it and I will be having a chat with HR about the other two, as I will be needing cover for maternity leave soon and extended holidays cover so in all I want to take on all three. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -

You know what is right and you will do that, congratulations. Imagine you gave in to him, employed her and she turns out to be incapable of doing the job due to her lack of skill, how do you and your team compensate for her underperformance and what image does it give your other staff of your judgement? It is definitely as they say a no brainer.John0

Not in all cases. Because under certain circumstances there may be a risk to OP's position, which might mean a bit of stakeholder influencing was in order before any action taken. It's foolish to pretend nepotism doesn't exist and if you;re talking about 2 - 3 months upskilling of the candidate required for job security some people in insecure financial positions with many dependents might choose to swallow it.
Morality costs.
However in this case, I'd be having a stern chat with HR and maybe lodging a complaint.Debt free 4th April 2007.

In any organisation I have ever worked in, improper influence on any procurement process for goods and services is a gross misconduct and any personal interest would need to be declared. Quite senior people go down sometimes for receiving the keys to cars which appear on their drives.
This is no different, HR is merely a specialist contract procurement department. I would take this to the senior HR person. Email, carpark, the lot.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I will be going to HR on Monday to see the senior and I will be showing her the email and the CV.
I can only tell her what happened in the cark park which will be confirmed by the camera's as the conversation could be a case of he said she said.
And the Managers side kick that works in HR better prepare to answer some questions as I would like to know how my personal home email address was given to this Manager as HR are the only people with this information. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
