So..... if you walk through a dark alley and get mugged, do you walk back the same way so you can get mugged a second time? Learn from the experience, it has cost you £60 you never needed to pay, so put our advice to good use and save yourself the rest. Do what you would have done with the first one had you found us BEFORE you paid...

    and ignore the rest.

The fact that you fell for a scam once doesn't set any precedent.

Now make sure that you tell everyone you know about the con. If only you had had a friend warn you...

I feel a bit stupid now after reading all this.

I have parked in Morrisons car park whilst attending a meeting about 5 minutes walk away. This car park used to be a retail park until 6 months ago and all signs for parking charges were ignored.

I parked there about 4 times over a 2 week period which was 3 weeks ago.

Yesterday I had a "Parking Charge Notice" for £90....blah blah pay £60 by 1.6.2012.

I paid it this morning by Visa Debit card and think that the other 3 are on their way.

What do I do about the other 3 if they turn up? Ignore them? Does it mean that I'll have to pay the other 3 if I paid the first one?

or should I write them a letter saying that £60 is all they are getting.

    Appreciate any thoughts please.

    Oh gaaaaawd!

You only had to Google the company name first to learn this is a scam!

Only the Police, Train Operators and Local Authorties can issue real PCNs. Did you not even suspect? Would you pay any speculative invoice a private company sent you?

    Hopefully never again.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

First and foremost it is issued by a private parking company it is not repeat not a fine secondly check the lease/hire agreement with the vehicle, in most cases they mention fines and penaltys, hence the importance of understanding it is not a fine.
If they do try it on and try and make you/your husband pay he can tell them to shove it, and the admin fee where the sun doesnt shine, as it is not a fine, or you could try and go for the getting in touch with the PPC option, but then again if the PPC gets an idea of this they may still try the lease company, hoping the lease company will pay up,and then pass the charges on.

Your case is a bit different because it's a company car so one letter is needed to Parking Eye and a letter or two to your Fleet Manager and Lease company to explain that this is your responsibility and to ignore any other letters, not charge you £10 each time the next instalment of this well-known mail scam arrives!

The letter to Parking Eye could be along the lines of 'Lease company name have passed me your letter because this car is leased to me. I am surprised to receive what purports to be a parking ticket. Please advise me what this is about?'

No admission of who was driving, nothing about that day at all. Just an open question in the hope of hooking all the threatograms in your direction.

As for the lease company letters, and/or for your Fleet Manager, they could be along the lines of the reply I suggested this poster use, just yesterday:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3956769

Read what I said to him and other advice given to him. And read the MacBudman thread linked there too which includes info about the BVRLA (lease companies' Trade Body) and how they are aware of this scam and so should their members be aware!

Word your own letter for your employer and the Lease co if appropriate making it clear what rubbish this fake PCN is and that you will be handling it as it's yours not theirs. Point out that because it's not even a real PCN from the Police or Local Authority, it's not covered in your company car t&cs (probably - read them and quote them!). As such they should have ignored it, shouldn't have taken it seriously and deducted a tenner and certainly must not repeat this error.

If you are in a union then copy in your rep but make them aware of the facts first, i.e. it's only a fake PCN, not a fine, NOT the responsibility of the Lease co or employer whatsoever under any circumstances. Effectively it's not their business and it never was; these parking companies just use the registered keeper details from the DVLA but in reality only the driver is responsible at the present time. NOTHING can happen, no repercussions for either company at all.

  • Thanks for your advice we are going down the route of writing to them and lease company and then hope they send any further correspondence our way which will be ignored we paid and have proof ! Which is what makes it sooooooo annoying ! You never know they may accept the appeal.....but not holding breath !

It's up to you, but the usual story is that it is a total waste of time and effort appealing to a parking company. Not only are they not going to give up the money they are trying to scrounge off you, but going through their procedures sends them the message that you have been duped into thinking that their FAKE ticket is real.... you wouldn't be appealing it otherwise, would you? That means they will think that, if they keep rejecting your appeals, they will be able to bully you into paying...

They will do NOTHING if you ignore them, lots of people do, so they are used to it.

If I were you I would just concentrate on getting your lease company sorted as Coupon Mad says.

It's not an appeal though, you will not get it accepted. Be careful as I said, with your wording. No saying who was driving, no info about that day.

Oh, and if you do appeal, under no circumstances send them the original P & D ticket, only a scan of it!

But the best you can hope to achieve is exactly the same as what you will CERTAINLY achieve by ignoring them.

Unfortunately, like too many honest folk, you have been tricked into believing that you are dealing with people of integrity who are going to listen to what you say. They are not.
  • Hello,

First of all sorry I know there are plenty of threads about this but I would just like a response to my own personal case!

I received a Parking Charge Notice from Parking Eye this morning for £60 if I pay before April 3rd, otherwise the charge is £90. I visited Telford Welcome Break with a friend for a coffee last week and we overstayed our visit by 57 minutes. Rightly so there are signs all over the car park stating maximum 2 hours free parking, honestly I didn't even look at these signs (even though they're planted all over the car park!) so I am in the wrong here in that sense. However I see many posts simply saying to ignore all these letters. Even though I am in the wrong am i ok to ignore these letters? Is there anything else I need to be aware of?

    Thanks in advance :)

Be careful. If they decide to pursue, then you will liable for late payment charges, baliff fees and court costs.
