They have actually approved the appeal! I wouldn't have been paying it anyway! Thank you all so much for your help! Xxx0

Thanks very much Coupon-Mad and give them FA. I read about "retro-clamping" on the "Membury services, welcome break ..parking eye (again!!)" thread and elsewhere on the net. Reason I ask is because the sign Parking Eye have up at our local Welcome Break states that they they will fine £90 or wheel clamp. Thanks for all your re-assurance, it is very much appreciated.0

Hi everyone, new to this thread, had a lovely ParkingEye PCN through our door the other day. Knew I'd be best checking here before paying the £50, glad to hear they're the total charlatans I anticipated them to be.
Just one question though; we got a fine for spending 1 hour 32 minutes in a retail park with a time allowance of 1 hour 20 minutes. This car park doesn't have pay meters; it's merely 'free' under the time 'constraint'. Does this have any bearing on the PCN - bearing in mind what I saw written earlier?Stephen_Leak wrote: »
The so-called "fine" will go higher and higher, and you will receive a series of ever-increasing threatening letters (debt collectors, bailliffs, court action/CCJ, bad credit rating, public stoning - OK, not the last one!) until you ... ignore them.
For a start, the car park owner has not suffered any loss. You did pay, and we never condone not doing so.0 -
No bearing at all, it is still just a try-on, same as any of their requests for payment. The reason never matters. Just ignore it and laugh at them.0

It is not a fine. You didn't get a fine.
If you nipped into a pub in town to use their toilet - or dropped litter in a shop - would you think it was a real fine if they tried to charge you £50?!
Similar scam - only the PPCs play on the fact that people are scared of REAL parking fines. And so they just impersonate a 'parking ticket' and trawl in a load of money from victims who 'pay first, think later'.
Glad to see you thought of MSE first!
Have you read the other threads on the forum as we have twenty or so new ones every day (this thread is comparatively old!). If not then please watch the Watchdog clip and look at the preview letter-chain in detail. You want to read 'PPC letters & threats' which is second-to-top of the forum index view (on a forum it's only ever one click away, see the last line of my signature). Show your household the scary letters to play 'snap' with in the coming months!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks
I am just do scared something will happen, iv never been in trouble before! If they send more letters shud I just ignore it reply?
X
Ignoring it is the only thing you should do - Contacting them will only make it seem you are taking the jokers seriously and prolong the scam.
The less contact you have now, the sooner it will stop altogether.
Check the sticky to see what to expect next and tick them off as a countdown to the end of the scam!0 -
OK ... I've seen all the stuff saying "don't reply" and I hate these Private Parking people too.
BUT i'm nervous.
I drove into a place with a sign that said Private Car Park.
It has no barrier and no-one uses it.
The car park was completely empty.
I stayed there for 38 minutes and never left my car.
(What the hell was I doing? I left the office at lunchtime and just HAD to go somewhere for a smoke, ok!)
And I contemplated the trains whilst listening to the radio before returning for an afternoon's slog.
Now I have a ticket for £90.
Car timed in and out on photos.
Driver not recognisable - but it was me and they do say "Don't Lie"
I went back today and there is a clear sign saying Pay and Display (which I didn't) and they know I didn't because you have to put in your registration!
And the signs say "Failure to pay for parking means that the user accepts a £90 charge"
This doesn't leave me much wriggle room.
I could claim it wasn't me - but perhaps there's a better picture they haven't shown me.
I could claim I wasn't parked ... can you be parked if you don't leave the vehicle?
I certainly didn't read the signs BECAUSE I didn't get out of the car - much less leave the car park on foot.
Now if I was of a legal persuasion I'd say I was on thin ice.
I'm up for a fight ... but not for a charge of £90 + costs.
And I've done it on more than one occasion and can only assume more tickets are on their way!

Well its pretty simple actually. You simply ignore them and make no contact with them whatsoever! If I remember these clowns sent me about five letters which were jolly useful to help me light the woodburner.. Then they give up and move onto the next mug that might pay up.OK ... Miles, your case would only be different if this 'PCN' was issued by a Train Operator under Bylaws, which were clearly displayed in the car park. Was it a train station car park and was it a ticket from a Train Operator like Northern Rail (a rare one to take seriously)?
If not, if it was a private company then presumably you've looked at the sticky thread mentioned above? You've seen the preview pics of the scary letters to ignore & file, watched the Watchdog clip with the solicitor?
'Scam over' then, for you, as you know the score it would be daft to pay or 'appeal' unless it's a real Train Operator's penalty ticket.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
