You should ask your butcher psychopathbabble - explain that you're after 5% fat mince and see what they can do. Steak mince is normally 10%; It'll be a wee bit dearer but worth it. Or buy steak mince and drain the excess fat off - if I can only get 10% fat mince I know that in a 500g pack there will 50g fat but to be free we need 25g fat so need to drain 25g off. TBH I usually drain a wee but more off to make sure it's the fat that's going and not just juices. HTHMortgage Aug 22 £280,000

My food diary is a wee bit sparse today cos I need to do a shop but I'm trying to use up what's in the cupboards first... def need to go in the morning though cos I'm out of fruit!
b - mullerlight; bag of sugar snap peas
l - home made carrot & coriander soup (10 limp carrots out of bottom of fridge, 3 stalks celery, 2 onions, 2 potatoes, coriander); cheat's rice pudding made with strawberry mullerlight
d - carrot & coriander soup; pasta dish of some kind depending on what I can find in cupboard!
Hope everyone's well? xMortgage Aug 22 £280,000

I didn't know you could do that? My consultant said you couldn't be guaranteed to be removing the fat so just to syn it as per the values in the book - drained or not. My best friend gets lean and counts it as extra lean - i've gone off the texture so use quorn as OH is veggie. Think that's why i've gone off it. I think mince has got really expensive.
If you have any pesto, you can make a nice enough pesto pasta salad? Water the pesto down with pasta cooking water and syn about a teaspoon, make a sauce with the pesto, water, chilli, salt and pepper and lime or lemon juice if you have it. Mix with cold rinsed al dente pasta. I mix in fresh tomatoes, caramelised onions and peppers and chunks of chicken but you could really change it to suit what you have?
there's also pasta salad and pasta bake from the OS boardsA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Hmm Zippy - looks like another one that different consultants vary on? Ours have def said about draining fat from mince if you can't buy 5% stuff.Mortgage Aug 22 £280,000

psychopathbabble wrote: »Hi all, I'm back again after a long break since February! I'm now the heaviest I've ever been, partly due to not being at work for most of this year. I'm determined to be organised and stick to this, I've taken lots of measurements and a few photos this morning ready to chart my progress - I read somewhere that the more statistics you track, the better you feel and see your progress (or lackof!). Will be doing extra easy mostly so my boyfriend can eat with me (he needs to lose too).psychopathbabble wrote: »just a quick question before i go to work... i want to start buying meat from a butchers, is lean mince free? Thank you everyone for the well dones:o I did nearly fall off the scales yes - and then had to weigh again as we both doubted the thing was working right.
Annoyingly the cooker/hob has died on me. It keeps shorting out after 20 minutes - even if the thing isn't on. So I am limited to salads, slow cookered or boiled in the microwave... That said I have a chilli casserole stewing away in the slow cooker.0 -

I'm like Zippy and have been using the veggie stuff more and more. The lowest we can get here is 6% but the truth is I don't really like mince meat anyway so although the veggie stuff is more expensive I actually prefer it.Mediterranean Mum
