I didn't know you could do that? My consultant said you couldn't be guaranteed to be removing the fat so just to syn it as per the values in the book - drained or not. My best friend gets lean and counts it as extra lean - i've gone off the texture so use quorn as OH is veggie. Think that's why i've gone off it. I think mince has got really expensive.

Yeah, our consultant said you need to syn it but tbh the EL is so expensive and hard to get I just cook the lean stuff in a bit of water to 'wash' the fat off, drain and make sure I don't use too much, e.g. mix half and half with quorn. Tend to use soya mince more often now as free on all plans. I think lots of people probably tweak it by using lean and draining it, another one of those grey areas...

I think extra lean is a pile of poop. It tastes of cardboard and is expensive. I've never bothered synning lean either but then I'm no SW angel.... I just try to eat less of it than I want, which I feel cancels out the extra fat. Totally unscientific. But I'm still at goal!

I think it's one of the bits of strictness that you could tighten up on if you hit a plateau. What I do is buy the lean and add loads of SFs whether it's for chilli or bolognese so that way the %age meat I'm having per portion is less to start with. I think both dishes benefit from leaving overnight to marinate after they're cooked (esp chilli) so the next morning fat will have floated to the top and solidified so I fish it out with a spoon.

Actually, I can often buy joints of beef cheaper per kg than mince. I buy a big joint and cut it up into smaller portions for roasting and some casserole pieces. Chilli made with pieces of beef is lovely.

Good to see some 'old' faces returning. Welcome Back!:D
  • gained 1.5 lb last night after a 100 % week which is a bit of a !!!!!! curses of being a woman eh, but then was voted woman of the year in group so a blessing of being a woman :T

Fab losses as always here, and defo a few cases of dif consultant opinions ours insists that blitzing veg in soup or mashing pots and swede etc, is fine and superfree veg soup is still superfree blitzed, but pureed fruits cooked etc has to be synned, the mince debate its so blooming expensive I'm with the draining n using less overall brigade.

Medmum ur salads sound amazing !

Sat in work bored n starving for my tea, can't wait til 8 x

Well I made up a pasta bake from the stuff in the cupboard and it was bl00dy good if I may say so myself! 2 red onions, 2 cloves of garlic, a green pepper and 2 stalks of celery all chopped up and "fried" in fry light then simmered in a cup of chicken stock & half a carton of passata with some chilli flakes, sweetner and a good splash of balsamic vinegar thrown in for good measure. When it had thickened a bit I added half a tub of FF cottage cheese and stirred in cooked pasta until the pasta was all coated then put in an ovenproof dish and sprinkled 2 HEAs worth of cheese over the top and shoved it in the oven until the cheese bubbled.

Yum yum yum. I haven't had any meat today so today will be a green day and I might eat the other half of the pasta bake later :)

Kand i wish i could do green days - my body doesnt like them although im not trying to lose now :)

Mince - i hadn't realised it varied so much. I think E.L slow cooks well but the price is insane. I'm a syn nazi on myself so don't take any risks if that makes sense. Best mate doesnt measure her HES either, but she can get away with that - I couldn't . I guess it's up to each person and what they are happy with.

Todays menu has been little unintentionally

banana, slice toast with bacon and egg
    Grapes
D - Baked bean lasagne (HEA cheese) packed with veg , with broc on the side.
Supper - rest of my bread and unsure.

Must have a couple of syns. Will eat loads of fruit later and at least one yog. Will hav e half a pink grapefruit , a third of a melon and an apple or two and any peaches which have ripened under the banana "awning" they are under he he .

Shellie - OS threads to inspire you if you n eed help. My friends hob just blew - £100 to fix.

    wow well done Shellie!

im going to WI tomorrow morning. tbh, i dont know what to expect. my jet lag is now presenting itself as me being exhausted, food going right through me (sorry if tmi!) and being starving ALL THE TIME. i've eaten my entire "emergency" stash of food at work in the past two days. i've been absolutely ravenous like an hour after eating and i have to walk past a chippy to get to the train station and a Chinese and two Indians on the walk home from the station. was all i could do to keep walking tonight!

i got to target originally when normal mince was free. tbh i've never used extra lean. i looked for it and its a nightmare to find here so i gave up and went back to the original rule. i always drained off as much fat as i could though.

Just back from WI armed with a new magazine fresh in this afternoon and another optimising book for 100 EE days and also 1lb lighter. My son who had a bad week and binged a couple of times i were out had gained 1.5lb and understands why so has offered his services to the consultant to help her deliver leaflets this week and he gets some extra body magic too.

Trying to think of ways to lose a little more next week as i seem to just be trugging along at 1- 1.5lb loses a week, i appreciate slow and steady could mean it stays off better but surely by now i could be further on :undecided
