What would encourage to purchase from one manufacturer as opposed to another then?
What if say Binatone offered a mobile which run iOS, naturally it is going to be at much less cost than an Apple iphone, what then?0 -
As explained the user data is easily transferable, my none android Satio the data was easily transferred to my Ray. But let us agree that the Google system is designed to lock people into Google OS, at least they are getting great devices at great prices to suit the individual requirments and budget, I don't mind being locked to SE as that is the main range of handsets I have purchased for many years now, nothing has come along as yet that encourages me to change
I think these days it's fairly easy to transfer content between any device, regardless of manufacturer. It's the individual apps and settings/data within them that's the biggest headache. But otherwise, as long as you are happy to do it manually, you can move your contacts, calendars, notes, photos, videos, music, documents, etc, etc, between pretty much any device you like. What would encourage to purchase from one manufacturer as opposed to another then?

I highly doubt Apple will let Binatone make an iOS device!0 -

The apps are also available (can I just ask if you have a gmail account?)
I too doubt Apple will let Binatone make an iOS device what about Samsung?
I bet there are non Apple devices that run iOS already0 -

Yeah I use gmail to keep my email, contacts and calendars in sync across multiple devices.
I don't think there are any devices out there running iOS that aren't Apple devices. I've certainly never read about any.0 -

The Gmail keeps a log of your apps that were downloaded from google play, so they would be available to a replacement device.
As for none apple devices http://macdailynews.com/2011/08/05/apple-cracking-down-on-non-developer-devices-running-ios-5-beta/0 -

Oh I know that, the problem is the in app data/preferences tends to be missing. And from what I gather, that's because the developers haven't implemented the ability to backup/restore the in app data/preferences, and there's no way to find out before installing an app whether it supports this or not.
The link above details developers selling iOS beta slots to people who aren't developers; these non-developers are still installing iOS on an Apple device. These aren't none Apple devices running iOS.
EDIT - Just wiped my OSF clean and started it afresh to see what data/settings would be restored to the device. It restored my screen brightness settings, but I had to manually go into Market to install some apps that were missing. I also had to setup the home screen from scratch too; it hadn't remember what icons and widgets I had. It also hasn't restored settings such as defaulting to the contacts tab when I press the call button etc. So it seems it can restore some things, but most things it can't.0 -
Samsung Galaxy S2 is the best...0

No way tell really, this is one of the problems of open source android - developers are left to their own devices. Google is tightening up on this so apps have a more consistent look and feel in future android os's.
Myself i use a dedicated backup program similar to the one the poster mentioned earlier to backup apps & app data just to be on the safe side.
I will wait a year or two before thinking of getting Android.
The Google is taking more and more control over the OS and with Motorola, now part of Google, will release the phones like Apple, full control over the Android OS.0 -

In another post you said you already owned an android device, but from what ypu have put in the above post, you favour the manufactur OS control as if google are going that way, and it will be more so in a couple of years time when you consider getting one, why think that the iOS may not have caught up by then?0 -

What I mean is I will wait a while until at least Android phones have sorted out things like wait of 3-6 months before you can update to newer version of OS, all apps work with all phones, malware etc. With Motorola Google can have its own Android OS and updates etc and let others sort themself out.0
