The answer is YES.0

I think it is because you are not asking the right question, the data (is that what you mean by system?) is available, so the quick and simple answer is yes, what is it you want to back up to bring across that you believe that you cannot?
OK, let me give an example so it's clearer:
Let's say I'm happily using my HTC Android phone. I have all my data/contents/settings exactly as I like them. I then buy a Samsung Android phone. I want all of the same data/content/settings to be on the Samsung phone; i.e., I want all my game saves, photos, settings, preferences, icon layouts, widgets etc, to appear on the Samsung phone exactly as I had them on my HTC phone. Is this possible or can I only restore some of the stuff from my HTC phone and then have to set the rest of it up manually? Can you do ANY of that with an iPhone?
Of course. If I bought a new iPhone tomorrow, I would just connect it to iTunes and 'restore from backup'. Within a few minutes the new iPhone would be setup exactly as my previous iPhone had been... all the same data/content/settings/saves/preferences. I am wondering if the same thing is possible with Android or if you have to set up each new device from scratch! From what I gather you can do it the iPhone way as long as you buy an Android device from the same manufacturer, but not if you don't.0 -

I'm not sure about the game saved positions (although that maybe a setting in the game) and certain ringtones maybe unique to the handset.
However if someone decided to upgrade their iphone 3g to a 4s, would their task be any less so?
Some tasks would have to be fine tuned on the device, just as when you change your car but stuck to the same brand, you may have to adjust the steering wheel and driver seat position.
But the simple answer to your question is that the major features would be transferred.0 -

So why would this be required, the only reason I can see is if the handset were lost for whatever reason, if that was the case then I don't see why the android user would be switching manufacturer?
But as the apple user is not switching manufacturer then the situation is no less so for the apple user?0 -

Right... so what setting/option do I need to flip on my Android device to make this device backup happen? I'm guessing it's just a setting on the device rather than a piece of software on the computer? So why would this be required, the only reason I can see is if the handset were lost for whatever reason, if that was the case then I don't see why the android user would be switching manufacturer?

Well if I had upgraded from an SGS2 to an HTC One X, I had assumed that because they were both Android I'd be able to restore all of my data and settings from the SGS2 onto the One X, meaning no time wasted setting up the One X. But from what I gather, switching from one Android manufacturer to another Android manufacturer is just as incompatible as switching from iOS to Windows Phone 7. I had assumed they were much more compatible than that since they all fall under the same 'Android' umbrella.
But then I seem to be getting conflicting information that backups and restores can be done across any/all Android devices exactly as can be done when switching from one iOS device to another! I just want a uniform answer as to whether that can or can't be done.0 -

I don't know to be honest, I am semi certain some games allow a back up of position as it allows you to share your scores.
But I can see why this facility maybe of importance to you , the photos I take , phone contacts and the major data are available so that already meets my needs. Remember nobody is trying to convince you to switch to android and nor should they, out of interest wht handset did you have before your apple device and how did you go about transferring the data from it to the apple device?0 -

I've got both an Android (OSF) and iPhone... I was looking to get a new Android phone and make it as pain free as possible switching by simply restoring from some sort of backup of my OSF to save me the hassle of having to setup the new device. Short of buying another OSF (or OSF2 I guess), it looks like I'm out of luck there.
Before the iPhone I had an Nokia E71. My contacts/calendars/mail were all synced to Outlook on my computer anyway so the iPhone just picked up all of that data automatically and loaded it onto the phone. It automatically loaded all of my music too since that was already in iTunes. Obviously, I didn't have any other content such as apps/settings/preferences because it was the first iOS device I owned.0 -
You said..Right, so you can do a full system backup on Android and move from one device manufacturer to another and have all your data/settings/preferences restored to that device? I feel like I'm not getting an easy answer here!mrochester wrote: »Of course. If I bought a new iPhone tomorrow, I would just connect it to iTunes and 'restore from backup'. Hate to break it to you but thats actually a no, you cant transfer it to another device from another manufacturer can you? Just from one iPhone to another...Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

I'm sure it will be less painful than going from the Nokia to the iphone (although I am semi confused as to why you would want another android handset with all their shortcomings)

Yeah, just from one iOS device to another. That's why I had assumed one Android device to another would also be possible, but that's not the case it seems. You're restricted in much the same way as you are with the iPhone.0
