    Well done pinkfizz!
Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

  • Hi all,

I volunteer for an independent charity that my mum runs - Westmeria counselling services (charity no: 1111486) and we have worked hard to transform an old shop into a lovely new charity shop in sidcup high street (opp mcdonalds). We seem to have a lot of designer clothes donated as well as others in women's men's and children's clothing.
We are being opened by the major of bexley on Saturday 11th august at 11am.
If you have donations or would like to come along to the opening please do and I hope we continue to receive donations and get the customers to enable us to run for many years to come! This is our first venture into this so fingers crossed! :-)

    Thanks in anticipation!

Ooh I kept all my June Judy and Bunty comics for years!

    Always loved the albums!
Oh I loved the Judy( not a Bunty girl) - grandma used to give me 2/6 a week pocket money and first thing I would buy is my Judy each week 3d then it jumped to 6d. Then she would by me the annuals for Christmas so I most likely would have read them as born 1956 and mum told me once I started reading it about 1962. Enjoy

i was fanatical about comics, and bought them all (as in Tracey, Bunty, Misty, Tammy, Debbie, Mandy.. errm.. have i missed any out??!!) with the pocket money i had. so keen was i, that i was there waiting for the delivery man to come in for a certain title, and couldn't wait for the shop assistant to snip the string off the bundle. then at xmas, I'd ask people to get me the annuals too, as i couldn't really afford them with my meagre pocket money.

Do you remember the Picture Library stories and on the back cover was a picture of a pop group (for Bunty it was the cut-out Bunty with various clothes to attach!) ?

As I got into my teens, I progressed to the colour magazines such as Blue Jeans, Just 17 and then Honey later on.

Thankfully, most of the Picture Libraries were still in my old bedroom taht my parents' kept for me, and when my daughter was old enough (6/7) i introduced all my comics to her. She relished them and that started my quest to search for them in CS and carboots. Only once, did I succumb to Ebay to buy some annuals but I was rather foolish then! Think daughter has about at least 60 or more annuals, and all my original Picture Libraries and sadly no comics as my mum chucked them out yonks ago!!! (they were bundled up in piles in the loft 25yrs ago!)

daughter is now 21 and still likes to read them for nostagia sake from time to time (she's v. sensible!) .:p:p

ps. btw, i started reading boys' comics too that my brother read - Beano, Whizzer and Chips, The Dandy, Beezer, Eagle (thought the latter with the Mekons really scary!)

also, I thought it was the bee's knees getting those cheapily made plastic freebies with our comics!

For those of you in the Greater Manchester area Cheadle has about 6 charity shops and one of them has a great vintage section.
This week got two beautiful dresses size 14. CS's are really helping me as I am on a mission to lose weight and just manage to pick up a couple of items to keep me going until I drop to the next size. Anyway dresses were Monsoon and M&S 2.99 each perfect.

Ooh, whereabouts? DS2 lives in Chorlton so not too far away for a sneaky trip when I visit him...

Alas when dad died last year and we went to clean out his flat( been the family home since 1952) we found mice had got to a lot of old papers including my comics........dad kept every piece of paper he had ever received be it a letter or receipt.

I know this is not from cs but am so thrilled - someone on freegle offered a ladies electric recliner and I got it, its so comfortable for my aching body. I love it.....so was best price possible - free except for the small amount of petrol as fitted in back of our kia with plenty of room to spare. I also got some clothes from someone there as well yesterday and so will not be buying any in cs for a bit( well not unless it really is special).

Way back in Jan I bought a beautiful red velvet laura ashley evening dress in cs and its been sitting awaiting the right place, as I couldn't leave it in the shop cost I think was £8, the kind of dress I had dreamed of owning. Now have a wedding to go to next month so it will be perfect, so no outlay needed except present and hair......my kind of costs....
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
