Well I'm posting already - just to say that I'm not keen on buying from charity shops to sell on eBay if it's no use to me I'd rather let someone else enjoy it.

That said I did once buy a lovely coat that was too small for me to give it a go but it completely back fired!

Anyway each to their own of course x
Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

I think it appropriate at this point in the thread that we all say a big 'Thank you' :T to all those people who go to 'proper' shops and buy stuff that they don't wear/use and then take them to the charity shops so us savvy people can get bargains (not to mention the benefit to the charity).

    Long may it continue. :)

I would like to second that Pollycat- very good point. I used to be one of those people who bought something used it once then donated it but not any more now I have learnt the error of my ways ( and I have retired!!).

My own thanks go to those lovely ladies who have been to a posh wedding wear something for the day then donate - in particular to the lady who donated a gorg monsoon coat which I picked up for £1 :T:T

    Happy shopping all xx

While we're doing thanks, a few :T :T :T to the tireless volunteers, without whom our favourite passtime would not be possible! Long may they continue to sort, steam and stock up the rails and shelves :A.

This is SUCH a good idea. I love going into charity shops when I go away! I am happy to provide a North Wales guide :)

On a related note, does anyone know of any good, pretty central ones in Liverpool?

Meant to reply to this yesterday and forgot :o. I've been disappointed in Liverpool, well charity shop-wise that is, as I love the city and waterside.

I've only found a couple - there a Scope (I think) next to Tesco Express opposite Debenhams, which used to be good but recently their prices have become ridiculous.

Also there's a BHF (again, I think - forgive me for not taking more notice) if you come out of Central Station (when it's operational!) and turn left by the cake shop in the precinct, then left again and it's a few yards along that road. I'm not too familiar with Liverpool so excuse the lack of road names.

Would be interested to know if there are any more that other people know of. When I've paid £4.70 for my return train/bus ticket to get there it would be good to do a proper tour, although I'm quite happy perusing the wonderful department stores too!

  • I'm not living in Liverpool, but my son does so we visit quite often.
Must say, I prefer Southport to Liverpool for the chazzers...though there's some on the Smithdown Road (Wavertree end) that seem good.
    Normal people worry me.

Is that walking distance from the centre? Can you give me a rough idea which station it is nearest to out of Moorfields, Central, James Street or Lime Street, to help me get my bearings?

  • I've never been able to find good charity shops in Liverpool city centre! Today we went to Formby Village, after it was kindly recommended on this thread - nice change from Southport... was surprised how many different ones there were!

I got a gorgeous black long top originally from Warehouse with pretty embroidery around the top - will wear it with leggings/jeans or as a beach cover up. That was from Cancer Research for £3.75 and I also went to the Barnados Children shop and got a lovely little Roo rattle for £1.50 :)

Smithdown Road area is right in the heart of student territory, on the edge of Toxteth. It's a fair walk from most of the city centre stations.

West Derby used to have a few charity shops, also try around the bottom end of Queens Drive.

I'm in Lincoln as well! Haven't been to any of the brant rd shops. Have had some good bargains from the lower high street shops, the one at the forum and the one on birchwood. Have read a few of your posts but never realised you were local.

Well hello my fellow Lincoln chazzer shopper!!!!

So.... my favourite Lincoln 'haunts' ....
The aforementioned cats in crisis, redwood drive
The air ambulance at brace bridge Heath (the high street one is also very good)
    Moorland Avenue Strut

Apparently there's a dog charity shop near Asda, but not been there yet.
