Got a surprise when I visited Barnardos charity shop in Southport today. A lot of the clothing is now 99p.
All the ladies tops, t shirts, pants and jeans cost 99p. (noticed the shoes are dearer, and the assistant told me jackets are dearer,I didn't look at dresses)
Don't know if this is national, or just our local shop.0 -

Blimey I was in there too! About 3.00 pm. You weren't the lady showing the staff the sale items you'd just bought from M&S were you?
I couldn't find a darned thing I liked enough to pay 99p for - think I'd left it a bit late.
Edit: I've just seen your other post and I believe you were that lady! Small world isn't it? I don't think I've ever met another MSEer before, wish I'd known you were one, I'd have introduced myself lol. :rotfl:I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Organic chemsitry book for €2... mainly them books go for around €40-€50 new so I was delighted. Most of the reactions are the same even though its an older book and it will do for referencing!094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250

Yes that was me, gosh it is a small world.
I'm sorry, I didn't notice you or whoever else was in the charity shop besides the assistants I spoke to, as I was recovering from the hot flush I had in Marks and Spencers. (partly my age and partly because I don't like busy shops and queues. They make me dizzy!)0 -
Lol that's amazing! Maybe we'll meet again in there some day - I could do with some company when I'm c/shopping! My faves are the RSPCA one in Eastbank Street and the Hospice in Bold Street, but I usually go round them all when I have a good session!
Today I got from the Hospice shop a mock leather 3-tier CD rack for £2.50 - wasn't much fun lugging it back to my flat (near the lake) in the rain!I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I like the two shops down Shakespeare St.
The Animal charity shop (Faace?) sells lovely clothing, usually priced between £1-£2. All the clothing looks like new. Everything else they sell is very reasonably priced.
The other shop is the Salvation Army, they seem to sell anything and everything, you never know what you're going to find. And I often buy knitting wool there.
Maybe Martin should design some MSE badges for us all to wear, then we can all say hello.:D:D

This is totally opposite to my 'charity shop bargain'.
Went into a British Heart shop in another town yesterday and the prices almost made me faint.
A TU top (worn) for £8.99?
You must be having a laugh!
I saw a few nice bits but all grossly overpriced.
Looked at the books and a Harlan Coben used paperback was £3.00.
These are the sort of books you can get in most charity shops, in fact I saw a lot of his books in other shops yesterday, ranging from 4 for £1 to 99p each.
Some charity shops really do need to get their act together and realise that they are unlikely to sell stuff at these prices, especially when there are over half-a-dozen charity shops in the same town.
BUT - my bargain was from the Manager's Special M&S sale.
Lovely padded bikini top for £3 (had been £19.50) and matching bottoms for £2 (had been £15).
And the SA somehow managed to charge me £2 for the top instead of £3.
So, brand new bikini, was £34 for £4.00.
Sorry for going off-topic.0 -

This is common round here too, Primark stuff for possibly more than it originally cost :rotfl:
I find British Heart Foundation & Oxfam worst for this. Most of my bargains come from local charity shops, Cancer research or Help the Aged.

I haven't posted for ages but I wanted to say a huge thanks to this thread it gave me the kick up the bottom I needed to check out the charity shops again and I managed to pick up some great buys yesterday:

Hooded top (not sure of label): 49p
Linen white shirt: 49p
School Trousers: 75p
Novelty t-shirt: 99p
3 novels for £1: 33p each
