This is totally opposite to my 'charity shop bargain'.

Went into a British Heart shop in another town yesterday and the prices almost made me faint.

A TU top (worn) for £8.99?
You must be having a laugh!

I saw a few nice bits but all grossly overpriced.

Looked at the books and a Harlan Coben used paperback was £3.00.

These are the sort of books you can get in most charity shops, in fact I saw a lot of his books in other shops yesterday, ranging from 4 for £1 to 99p each.

Some charity shops really do need to get their act together and realise that they are unlikely to sell stuff at these prices, especially when there are over half-a-dozen charity shops in the same town.

BUT - my bargain was from the Manager's Special M&S sale.
Lovely padded bikini top for £3 (had been £19.50) and matching bottoms for £2 (had been £15).
And the SA somehow managed to charge me £2 for the top instead of £3.
So, brand new bikini, was £34 for £4.00.

    Sorry for going off-topic. ;)

I think you can be forgiven for going off topic. What you've demonstrated (and we all know but CSs don't seem to have caught on) is that you can buy brand new in sales or in cheapo shops (Primark, Tu, Asda and Matalan particularly) for less than the CS is asking. Books on line are getting to that point too plus there's the library alternative. If they want to be too greedy for brands that are cheap to start with they won't sell their stuff. The choice is theirs but it's the charity that's losing out.

We've just bought our first house and have come to the conclusion that our Ikea furniture from our rented house needed replacing...mainly as the house is now smaller and most of it wont fit!

We sent it all to the BHF furniture shop in town and have replaced it mostly with second hand items from there. Over the past few months I have found...

Solid oak coffee table - £25
Solid Wood "tall boy" from the 50s - £50
Pine full length mirror - £25
    70s small wardrobe - £70
    Massive double wardrobe - £120...

Also...my best find (well my mum's) was a brown leather wing backed chair - a few scratches but in very good nick. Bought it on the spot - has little wheels at the front and studs around the bottom. We needed a chair and had saved £200 for a nice one so this was a treat. £110 for it seemed a steal.

It was delivered on Monday and when we took the cushion out to bring it in it turn out it's from Laura Ashley...googled how much they sell for new (this is probably late 90s from the look of the label) and they are about £750-£900! Very, very pleased.

Although in true kittie style the youngest cat has claimed it as her's for now.

That's good, the BHF furniture shop here is full of extortionately expensive tat (really is) but a bus ride to the next town and they have a fantastic shop full of loads of great stuff! My mum got a very expensive suite at a great price as 1 cushion had been fire damaged, and they delivered all the way to our city.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

The CS in Southport sound amazing - I think I might take a drive there and have a nosy! Include me in the shopping group if you start one!

I have had a couple of really good bargains recently.

    Nice West One dress 3
    New Monsoon Dress 5
    Boden dress 4
Great suitcase for my holiday 3 - I'm really pleased with this because it was on my list of things to get new. I was not looking forward to paying at least 50 for one!

Sorry my pound sign is broken!

Have been a lurker on this thread for ages - love to hear about the bargains everyone finds, being an avid charity shopper myself. Cannot resist posting about todays bargain - a Monsoon ankle length brown velvet skirt, still with the tags on for £4.00! Original price £84.95...though it had been reduced a couple of times on the tags. It was in the Age UK shop in Alsager (Cheshire) which is a brilliant shop, lovely staff, a regular "Sale" rail and good bric-a-brac.

After spending the last few months in the de-cluttering thread due to moving house, I'm surprised that I haven't seen any of our stuff in this thread, lol.

To the Southport group (lol) - have you tried Formby? It's a small town but there are about a dozen c/shops, and some of them are brilliant. 15 mins on the train from Southport. I do it quite often.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D
