    Hey All

Not posted for a few weeks, during that time I have got many bargains, including some brand new items that are stashed for family xmas gifts including a bnwt Ralph Lauren polo shirt for DH (£5 so possibly a fake but if it is its a good one!) And a bn boxed jasper conran purse/clutch bag for £10.

My best bargain is not particularly a bargain from a monetry point of view but just because I know it will be appreciated). One of local cs has a window display dressed as a formal night out (male dummy in a tuxedo and female dummy in an evening gown etc, last week my friend was admiring an evening bag in the window but thought it would be really expensive and didn't want to ask the staff to go in the window and show her the bag if she then couldn't afford it.

Fast forward one week and I go to the same shop on my own and bag is in the shop and is only £2.99 and is from Next and bnwt. I am so pleased and my current plan is to give it her from my dd and ds at xmas but I might just crack and give it to her before then.
    Aims for 2014
Drink a glass of water a day, Empty handbag at least once a week, Continue "not putting things off" and tackle things head on, Treasure people around me, Stay healthy and well away from hospitals, Continue to declutter/decorate house slowly and not get stressed because I can't do everything at once. :D
  • Not from the charity shop but I got some bargains at a fundraiser in our local village, they had a pre-loved kids clothes and toys stall. The fundraiser was to raise money for DS's pre - school who lost everything in the recent flooding, it was a lovely day with lots of community spirit - i love where i live :)

For the grand total of £5.70 i got...

    Next winter coat for DD2
    BNWT monsoon trousers for DS
    Little Rocha t-shirt for DS
Ted Baker 'Baby Baker' jeans for DD2
Clarks trainers for DD2, not a mark on them
    7x M&S vests for DD2
    M&S sunhat for DD2
Tu Minnie Mouse pjs for DD2
Next jumper dress for DD2, looks unworn

Also got DD2 a elc shopping basket for 30p, she is obsessed with putting things in bags and if anything goes missing we know where to look first! DD1 got some books for 50p, my little bookworm and DS got yet MORE trains, my little trainspotter :)

The handle on mums handbag had snapped we had bought it for her on holiday it was leather and had lots and lots of pockets and was a cross over style, she wasn't happy it couldn't be repaired as she would miss all the numerous pockets and we couldn't find one similar anywhere.

Yesterday I went into the local hospice charity shop and saw a gorgeous black handbag which looked to be just about the right size, I though itll do for now till we find the one... I opened it and it had lots and lots of pockets I didnt notice the labels still attached it cost me £3 I took it home, gave it to mum and she loved it and noticed the labels still attached, then out of curiosity I googled the name on the tag... the bag is still retailing for £95 new

Sounds like everyones having a fine old time finding their bargains!

I seem to be going through a crockery/kitchenalia period, got one of those red enamalled coffe pots for £2.49, abolutely perfect, then found a red teapot to match for 79p. a couple of nice china plates for cakes etc, a couple of china owl ornaments for 50p each which have holes in the bottom so I can use them as cane toppers so I dont stab my eyes out whilst gardening!

    Happy bargain shopping all....

    toodles for now.

  • The kids are gonna be completely kitted out for winter at this rate, what with all these charity shop buys i've been finding lately plus the stuff i bought in last years sales! :D This week's booty:

Gap fleece hoody for DS £3
    Next t-shirt for DS 49p
    Gap l/s top for DD2 £1
Beautiful green cardi for DD2, don't recognise the brand, looks like one of those that might have come from TK Maxx i think. £2
    Floral sunhat for DD2 50p
Another pack of those coloured foam pads for outdoors £2.50

Should i feel bad about buying the kids some clothes etc from the charity shops/boot sales? I've never thought so, seems common sense when they grow so quickly and i only buy stuff in good condition but the money i save goes on nice things like days out and little treats. My friend says she'd never buy her kids anything from a charity shop because it's not fair on them to have secondhand stuff. Then again she is 10k in debt from catalogues and credit cards so maybe shes not the best person to advise me lol :rotfl:

I don't understand what's not fair about it I'd the stuff is quality!

I over buy stuff for my kids and although I hand down between them I love to see the remaining (piles upon piles) of good stuff go to someone who will appreciate it

My dds love fancy dresses and when eldest was 3/4 she had a thing for the monsoon ones. I bought loads (2nd hand) on eBay. Which is almost the same!

No you definitely don't need to feel bad!! I really don't understand your friend's logic in saying you're being unfair. You are making sure your children are well turned out and living within your means. Without being rude, I think she's the one doing her family a disservice by spending money they can't afford. That's irresponsible.

I know there are people on these boards who are desperate for money but there are lots of others (like you and me) who just want to be sensible with money. If you spend wisely where you can then it leaves money over to enjoy!!

I saw a lovely tailored red, wool skirt in a CS today. It was Country Casuals in perfect condition. I didn't buy it because it was dry clean only. Now I'm thinking that for the money (£5) it was almost disposable. I've more shopping to do tomorrow...:undecided

Bit O/T but over the years ( am 56) I have washed many, many dry clean only garments - only if they are very special outfits or have a special finish I do not bother. I bought in CS about 5 years ago a lovely long ( down to ankles) pure wool coat and yes wash it on the wool cycle ( or lowest temp) very short light spin and then just hang it up to dry usually in bathroom as they drip, never put them out in full sunshine but maybe an overcast dry day ( never have to worry much as sunshine so rare these days:rotfl: ) then lightly press with a damp tea towel and its as good as new.

Have quite a few skirts that say dry clean only on them and some trousers that I wash, dry and press the same way.

I started this not because it cost so much, years ago it was quite cheap to dry clean but because I hated the smell, seemed to linger for weeks.
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

    Hi everyone!
Charity shops where I live in Beckenham (Kent) are fab - although the high street is overrun with them, which some people hate, but I love!
My best bargains have been a pair of Carvela shoes for £4.50 and a huge framed Dali print for £15

Shrewbie- I live at Bromley South and West Wickham have some good ones paticulalry St Chistopher`s Hospice and Oxfam. Also look at Hayes- several there! Happy Hunting!
