    What design are they, DFV?

I have lots of (Greenwich) Denby table/ovenware bought from their factory shop many years ago.

The almost terminally unimaginative Imperial Blue. My Uni flatmate had a breakfast cup (think highsided cereal bowl with handle) & I thought "nice!". So when a department store bought the old Coop store & needed to buy client goodwill, I went a bit wild & loaded a Hope Chest (at 20% off opening discount & another 10% off for the store card). I've bits they don't make any more that weren't trendy at the time but seemed like a good idea for One Day & they've graced three Christenings! The plates & bowls and mugs are in everyday use, hence me going a bit amok in the cs.

That Himself spotted & recognised it is not surprising given it's our daily kit, but he learned *years* ago that I crooned as happily over a cs cup or jug (or whatever with the right basestamp) as I did over flowers & Denby worked out cheaper. Sons have been warned flowers are a safer bet though...

Need to do a'cheese basket' for a raffle prize: I wanted to maximise the cheese by not spending on a basket, but didn't want just to cover a box with paper.
I thought I might find a pretty plate in the local charity shop, and actually found a fantastic, unmarked wooden cheese board, so the cheese will look lovely.

  • I like the Denby Imperial Blue, we have a few mugs in that pattern. We've got a set of Denby Arabesque which we use for Christmas.

Oh yes, that would be in part why I'm a Denbyholic - I *adore* the lines...
Nearly every pattern is on a graceful curvaceous shape.

    Arabesque for Christmas? Brilliant idea!

I was a Saturday girl in a department store in the late 1960s and one of my jobs was to dust the china and crockery.

I loved the Arabesque design and am sure that's where my love of Denby comes from.

As I type I have a Gypsy pot (think it originally had a lid) on my desk with my pens in, bought from a charity shop for peanuts.

My bargains this week have included a £2 swishy knee length skirt, perfect for Christmas Day. A couple of retro games console games for 50p each which will be well received in a Christmas Eve games night hamper for DDs and a pop up 7ft Christmas tree for £5.

I visited a neighbourhood thrift shop for the first time ever today - it's in a village not too far from me, but is only open for a few hours on a Thursday and I'm not usually around to be able to visit. I treated myself to a set of six National Trust DVDs all about various famous gardens (Sissinghurst, Heligan, Alnwick etc etc) throughout the year for just £1.50 (it will be lovely to see the seasonal changes), a replacement stick blender (mine has just given up) for £2 and a dowel jig (not entirely sure what it is, but Mister CJ was very happy to add it to his workshop stuff) for a mere 50p.

I have a full set of Denby Whisper, (grey background and white/apricot/dark grey swirls)....bought in the early 80's when I worked for a department store and got a hefty discount. Various pieces got smashed over the years but I have always been able to replace using a china matching service. Still love it!
