A hardback copy of the Great British Tuck Shop book for 99p. Loads of sweets and snacks that I can remember from the 80's and the husband can remember from the 70's! A fun read!
2 coats, one an Italian Cape style coat in Camel, and the other a dogtooth design, both 99p.
A Sable Persian 1950's coin purse, 99p.
A Griff Rhys Jones book in Mountains for my uncle, again 99p.0 -
Lovely Blooming Marvellous maternity/nursing dress, grey jersey fabric with three quarter length sleeves £5.00 which I was happy with as they're £25-35 new at Mothercare and it'll be great moving through to the autumn/winter.
Local hospice outlet shop is in our town centre as well, baby clothes 3 for £1 got a solid 13 items for £4 so yes I got one free as well.
Another shop had 5 for £1 and they had several of the Tommy Tippett bibs with the foam collars in the basket so I got those as they're about £5 for a pair brand new in Asda etc.
Very pleased with those finds.Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Jan 2012: £16,000+ [STRIKE] Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Sep 2013: £13,023 [/STRIKE]

went to a furniture charity shop and they had a £1 rail of clothes from odd bits that people bundle up and drop off with their unwanted furniture. Got a John Lewis man's coat with detachable gilet inside - looks practically new.
From another shop I got a gorgeous M&S pale blue, new, tweedy jacket for £8.
And from another, 5 pretty bone china cups and plates for £3.75 - no saucers though.0 -
Well I have returned from my tour of the British Isles which incorporated ROI and a load of chazzers. I came back with 20 new books, some gorgeous quality dresses for our little princess, child safety locks for the fridge and kitchen cupboards, some amazing heavy silver plated cylindrical certificate holders for just £2.99 each (usually retail at £40+) and a large stainless steel recipe book holder, which helpfully is being used as a holder for my 17" laptop
Charity shops are generally getting very expensive now, my assessments are as follows:
- Belfast: a disappointing lack of chazzers, save yourself a search and go elsewhere
- Cork: less chazzers than I had thought, but loads of shops and great craic
- Edinburgh: loads of chazzers, mainly contained along the one street. Prices vary widely but I was happy with my picks
- Glasgow: more chazzers than you can shake a stick at! Hours of fun but selectivity is required
- Inverness: lots of chazzers to pick from, fabulous place for bargains at some of them. My favourite so far!
- Winchester: a beautiful small city, buzzing and crammed with lovely stores and chazzers, which also happen to be (for me) prohibitively pricey, given that I enjoy the thrill of the bargain possibly more than items themselves. However there was a Salvation Army stall in the marketplace and I picked up a book I'd P'inned a few months ago for just 50p.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

This should form the basis for a whole new thread so that chazzer-loving MSErs know whether to spend time and effort visiting chazzers when away from home!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

I had a day out yesterday and here is my cs assessment
Richmond Surrey . Very good quality items but most quite small sizes and quite expensive in my view. Leather jacket priced at £45, dresses £20 etc
Twickenham. Good selection of shops just over the bridge with some good quality items again. Cheaper than Richmond eg. Boden dress £12 so still more than I usually pay but a good high quality selection.
Windsor. 5 charity shops on main shopping area but quality quite poor and very expensive for what was on offer. I didn't buy anything at all in Windsor even books were £2.99
I bought a lovely joules tunic, a Boden dress, Boden coat , a Boden tunic and lovely scarf. I did spend a fair bit of money but got some lovely items0 -
I bought several necklaces today to break up to make other things - 50p each - and a Boden jacket for £10. That's the most I've spent on an item of clothing from a charity shop but it was brand new, with tags. It should be good for work when the weather cools down.
Most of the things I saw today were from supermarkets. I'm trying to curb my CS shopping by looking out for better quality stuff. I've also decided to try not to buy new for a year - which is a pity because there's 25% off Tu this week!0 -
