  • I have done it, and what I learned was that it's better to pick it up and dither when you're actually holding it, as you can always put it down again. Better to carry it round the shop while you browse and then decide.

That's what I do now. I've lost out before!

Absolute bargain btw Pollycat! I think I'd be tempted to eBay it too.
  • My bargain today was nine BRAND NEW Horrid Henry books for £3 for my godson. Was dead chuffed as they're £2.99 each in WHSmith!

I've learned the hard way too!
I did have a lady follow me all round our Hospice shop waiting (hoping but in vain) for me to put down a Cath Kidston bag.

The 'boss' says no, he's keeping it. :(

Not me, but I was in a c/shop today and a woman was at the counter, paying £5 for a pair of tan leather Doc Martens boots, that looked in perfect condition. I just googled, and a very similar pair is £100 new on their website! The lady at the counter said she had only just put them out.

Keep telling myself they wouldn't have been my size, and anyway what would I have wanted with them at my age! :rotfl:
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Good tip I will have to try that.

Problem was it was in the "special place" for special things in the shop and there have been several thefts from this particular area from charity shops. Managers usually leave a note on the window for a return. That is how I know.

I wouldn't dare in any shop because of all the CCTV and don't want my life ruined by such a thing. Anyway I am always nervous that when I am carrying anything around a shop I worry that someone may think ill of me. It puts me off shopping. I can't think straight as it clouds my judgement.

But after today I will have to try to hold onto it and pay for it of course.

How old? (sorry if that's rude :o).

I'm early 60s and still wear Doc Marts.
I have a lemon yellow patent pair - these are the originals bought over 25 years ago - that a group of teens went crazy over, asking where I'd bought them.
Not to mention 2 pair of floral ones, purple ones and some tartan ones.

Aww darn it! :rotfl: I guess if he gets a lot of wear out of it then it's worth keeping I suppose.

Got a hospice chazza shopping dilemma!

On Tuesday I saw a black wool Jacques Vert coat that I really liked. Couldn't make up my mind at the time but I still keep thinking about it!! It is 3/4 length, swing back, collarless and double breasted with fancy buttons. It also has a scarf thingy in the same fabric with a fake fur bit that presumably becomes a detachable collar, (hard to describe). It is in perfect condition and may even be new, (no 'sitting down' creases in the lining). It is priced at £15. Googled that make and the average price for similar coats is over £100. I will be going again tomorrow, (they only open 2 half days a week), and just don't know what to do! Am asking myself the following questions:-

    Do I NEED it....no!
    Do I WANT it....yes!
WHY do I want it.....not had anything nice from a chazza for a couple of weeks and finding something nice give ma a bit of a buzz!
    Can I AFFORD it...yes!
Will I get a lot of WEAR out of it....probably!
Do I have anything SIMILAR....sort of but I would donate the old one!

I haven't even tried it on but I'm pretty sure it would fit. Just watch tho...when I get there it will have been sold and that will solve the problem anyhoo! :o

My own personal conclusion from your answers to your questions would be to buy the coat - if it's still there.

We have a brand new shop opening next Wednesday - Sue Ryder - I peered in the windows, it looks all ready and it's massive.

    OMG!
That means my trips up to the local Tesco Extra (the shops are right next to each other) are going to take a lot longer than previously.

I already do a route from the bus stop taking in 2 hospice shops and 3 other charity shops before I get to Tesco for 'bits and bobs'.

I can see me mimicking Captain Lawrence Oates by saying to OH "I am going outside and I may be some time". :)

  • I think the most important question there is "will I get a lot of wear out of it?" and you answered probably, so that's a yes in my book!

I always think there's no point buying something that you won't wear/use just because you like it. But if you will wear it/use it, then go for it!

Another thing I always think is that if it's still there when you go back, then it was meant to be. If it isn't then it wasn't.
