  • My bargains: Took masses of unwanted clothes/stuff to Hospice Shop and bought only next years Christmas cards :D
    Normal people worry me.

Browsing a regular Sense store that regularly takes LPs, I found a series of jazz records that had been correctly stored!

99p each for albums that include Duke Ellington, Gerry Mulligan, Django Reinhardt, Sidney Bechet and Buddy Rich.

I was able to replace the torn inner paper sleeves, some needed cleaning and will take a few days to dry out, but they are scratch free and have no dust crazing!!

I've listened to the Django Reinhardt and Sidney Bechet and one of the Duke Ellington records (1968 and 1966) and they sound just as good now as they did then.

I can't wait for the others to be ready!
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Today Red Cross shop not taking any donations as they are oversubscribed but there was nothing in the shop I wanted.

Local Scope shop closed due to lack of volunteers.

Carlton Ware egg cup £5 Local Hospice shop.

Gucci bag £30 Help the Aged apparently it was there for weeks - probably due to the price. I couldn't resist it though.

Again I have gone for quality rather than quantity.

    Just canvassing opinions here.

I saw a Jaeger top in the Sally Army shop. It was brand new with tags but I thought it was over-priced (£120 new, £25 chazza shop price).

Am I being mean? It's a particularly scruffy example of a charity shop (the old style with no Mary Portas colour co-ordinating shelves, and no tat weeded out) so £25 seems out of step and was the most expensive thing in the shop.

^I think its expensive so would walk away. One of my pet hates is people that haggle in charity shops, though (saw an example of this on Saturday, held my tongue through gritted teeth). They wouldn't do it in an ordinary retail establishment, but somehow diminishing the profits of a chazza rather than a profit-making organisation is ok?

A shocking state of affairs! I'd encourage anyone who can't offload good quality stuff to stick it on Freecycle.

Hope is not a strategy :D...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

I think it's expensive too but I have walked away in the past. Only to really regret it and go back to it the next day and sometimes it is there and sometimes not. It depends how special it is to you. If it is special why not treat yourself? You are worth it. Why always settle for the cheap stuff?
It also depends on your budget. If I am feeling poor no chance but when I have money in my pocket well why not. It's all for charity after all.
Is it expensive at 21% the original price? May be not. If you are good at percentages keep a mental note to self of what stuff is priced at. I am sure this is a good rule of thumb for the chazzer, unless they look on ebay to see how much stuff goes for.
The chazzer is bound to make as much money as it can for it's charity.
Yes, Freecycle I wish people would.
  • Considering it is brand new with tags and was £120 brand new, then I don't think £25 is that bad tbh. I think the charity shop would be doing itself a dis service if it priced it for any less. I'd hate to think of them selling it for £5 or £10 when they could potentially get so much more. I think £25 is a good price.

A brand new Jaegar top for £25? If I really, really liked it, if i had things to wear with it and if I had the cash to spare I would go for it. I've often dithered and regretted it. Do let us know if you go back for it.

The Hospice chazza had another big box full of brand new Avon stuff the other day.....got 2 eye shadow palettes, a lipstick and a nail polish all for £3 :)

Your replies have been very interesting.

I shan't be going back for it as it is too posh for the rest of my (casual) wardrobe.

A nice buy for someone, and as you've all said, the cash is for a charitable cause, so probably correctly priced on balance.

It must be a British thing shopping in the chazzers as everyone was out today.

There are even chazzers in Majorca catering to the British.
