Don't forget your gas-mask boxes on string
You won't be allowed on the evacuation train if you haven't got them!
DD has made the boxes, ration books and name labels at school, including ones for me!They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
not cs, but in taking rubbish to recycling centre picked up a mirror (am collecting them to line the landing) and a fold-away table which I've been wanting for ages, which needs a paint but all for free!:AA/give up smoking (done)0

I have taught my daughter well...
She popped into one of our local charity shops and picked up 2 pairs of Hair straighteners for £2 each pair... they are GHDs!! (and she's given a pair to me!!!
We are planning a trip to Holderness Road in Hull next month. It has the most charity shops in one street I have ever seen!DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

Got some 'collective' buys to share with you today
Won't be listing specific prices as I can't remember them all! But of course everything was cheap, cheap, cheap.
I'll start with books!
'Mother Tongue' by Bill Bryson - (Claire House Hospice) - I love Bill Bryson but spotted this when I had no money on me, so was very glad when I went back a couple days later and it was still there waiting for me.
'French Women Don't Get Fat' by Mireille Guiliano - (Oxfam)
and lastly 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' by George Orwell - (Save the Children) - And apparently it was somebody's school form prize in 1987 before they got tired of it
Now on to the clothes and shoes;
Grey Oasis jeggings - (Age Concern)
Red French Connection basic vest - (Save the Children)
Floral scarf - (Barnardo's)
Lilac M&S strappy night dress - (BHF)
Black Dorothy Perkins vest top with silver thread running through it - (Cancer Research)
Purple F&F short sleeved top - (Age Cymru) - Wouldn't normally get F&F but it was only a quid.
Zara Basics light blue/white pinstripe fitted sleeveless top - (Cancer Research)
A pair of black 'Prima Ballerina' Crocs - (Cancer Research) - Now I find normal Crocs loathsome, but these ones are really cute yet still comfy! Really pleased with that find! And they were £3 odd.
A pair of black Select sandals - (Cancer Research)
I also got a little macrame woven bracelet for 50p at Save the Children. I like those ones because you can pull on both strings to make them tighter, really handy when you've got stupidly skinny wrists like myself!
Tidy! :money:0 -
Got hubby a lovely pair of jeans for £2.99 in Age UK.
Unfortunately the 2 pairs I got in the Debra CS were no good so will have to go back. 1st pair were to short in the leg (pity as they were lovely jeans) 2nd pair were terrible - they were so low on the body they were like girls hipsters not men's (without being crass there was hardly room for him in them!) & with really skinny legs. My hubby is so not a student/hipster type, he likes regular jeans that fit on the waist & don't show off your pants (and what you keep in them)! :rotfl:A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
The other day I got some cropped jeans (F&F I think?), faded denim with turn-ups, boyfriend style for £2.25 from the BHF.
Also from the BHF I got a nice cotton cropped top/blouse, cream with butterflies on for £2.25.
Also a BNWT patterned blouse from there too, originally £10 from George, I got it for about £2.50.0 -

I've also been trying to put together an outfit each for DD and me for a 1940s day at school in a few weeks. I've found a silk dress (£12) plus Red Herring cardie (£4), brand new vintage (if that makes sense) shoes for £2.50, earrings for £1.99 and a headscarf for £1 plus a few other bits like tights from Poundland, total spend under £25  which is a bit steep for fancy dress but I'll wear everything again. DD's 'dress' is actually a top, with lace-up school shoes, ribbons for her hair and some vintage ankle socks I think we're just about there! The charity shops have done very well out of us.
They have to make their own ration books and labels at school and we all get evacuated on the day....
The outfits went down very well yesterday so I wondered whether you'd like to see our charity shop haul 1940s stylee....
The headscarf especially got me lots of compliments, so guess what I'll be wearing this summer! I'd forgotten how much fun dressing up can beThey call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
Sounds like some great finds have been going on!
Love the outfits BWL, fab!
I picked up a fantastic double sheet and pillow cases yesterday from a local hospice shop, they look like miniature hexigan patchwork in pale blues and greens. It's gorgeous and ideal for back one of my quilts. I love the irony of backing a hand sewn hexi quilt with printed hexi fabric. It makes me smile. Sheet and pillow cases cost £1.25 . I bought two garden dwarfs for £1 each and a set of barbeque utensils for £2- that was a real bargain!0
