I always imagined it as being full of rich footballers, but you wouldn't know it from the "town centre" - well just one street really.
Never been to Banks. Keep meaning to find Churchtown though, as I believe that is a charming little village. I don't have a car in Southport so it all depends on the bus timetables.
I'm not even allowing myself to look at clothes at the moment, as I can hardly get my wardrobe doors shut! Saying that, I did get a lovely pair of M&S warm woolly-lined mittens, looked like new, for £1 in Debra the other day. The scouse guy in there is ever so nice and friendly.
You could get a bus to the Plough Hotel, by the big roundabout at Crossens as you enter Southport. The car boot is prob. less than half a mile away down Banks Rd. (which is a road off the roundabout.) In nice weather, it is a really good boot sale.
It has given rain today, so will prob. be cancelled.0 -
I popped into a shop last week for some buttons, only to find out that it was closing the next day & they were packing up. They sent me in the direction of another shop that keeps all the buttons of the stuff it sends to the ragman.
Anyway, I had a look in there - no buttons that I wanted but I got a shredder for my son for £4.00, an adjustable standard lamp (the main stand goes up & down & the bulb holder swivels around & up & down) for £3.50. It has a wooden base but the rest of it is metal. And, I got 4 soup bowls to match others for 30p each. Oh, and some lovely Easter cards for 20p each.
Well chuffed with my goodies0 -
Not a charity shop, but the Spring Fete this morning at the church at the end of my road...
Yankee candle French vanilla votive (still in it's plastic), 20p
A box of Spanish Orange pastries (brought back from Spain) £1.50 - just had one with my cuppa and it was delicious!
And a lovely big money plant for 50p.
My mum got a couple of books as they always have a huge book stall with all books at 30p, (oh and kids books @ 10p).A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
I was following two ladies in the local charity shops yesterday and they were buying just about everything that looked "as new" or was a good label - all different sizes as well. They were obviously going on eBay. One lady spent £34 in one of the shops alone and they had empty pushchairs with them to put the loot in!
So .... what chance have I got *sob*Normal people worry me.0 -
Erm, stop following people? Get there first thing in the morning when the doors open.0

You can always ask charity shops if there are particular days they put out new stock, some do it every day, but some also have weekly or fortnightly schedules for removing all old stock and putting out a load of new stuff.
Also it's not always stuff that's the "top" named brand that will actually be just what you want, and fit perfectly - that's part of the fun of charity shops (if shopping for yourself), you can discover some great new brands you never heard of before and items you wouldn't ever find in a high street shop.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Not had any bargains for a while but today I got a big pressure cooker (much bigger than mine) with all the bits and bobs, and the original instruction book for £3.95. Very pleased!Slightly bitter0

Ah Hobs, I have seen that before too. There are plenty of charity shops near us that aren't in the town centre, they may be worth a try.0

Got a looks like new Monteray (sp?) from Debenhams cotton greeny/browny patterned skirt for £2.99. Will be great for work in the warmer months.
Also got a work blouse for £2.50 in New Look in the sale (not a charity shop buy but mega bargain I had to share)I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
In the last few weeks I've managed to pick up a few bits. I really like buying board games from charity shops, I love them but can't justify the price label of £15-20 they usually cost brand new, plus the old ones tend to be more fun! Anyway, I got a Family Fortunes board game, which I used to love when I was younger, for £1.99. A long-sleeved very new looking Next men's top for my OH, £3.99. And a pair of baby joggers 0-3 months, Mothercare, 30p.0
