warm home discount scheme

I am with Southern Electric for electric.
I applied for the Warm Home Discount Scheme.
I was refused because they dont accept if you are on contributions based Employment Support Allowance although I was on the middle rate DLA side of the claim!!
As contributions based ESA is less money to live on in a week compared to income related ESA I was bloody furious with Southern Electric and I had a right go at them!!
I think its so unfair people on contributions based aren't entitled to any help at all even though its less money to live on then someone being on an income related benefit!!
Do you have a partner that works?
If you are having trouble managing your bills perhaps you could look at your other outgoings, cut down on non essentials?0 -

Thanks
I see you have to be a pensioner on a low income - I thought they already had extra help in the form of the cheque each year from the government to help with heating!
3. Eligibility
You qualify for the discount if on the ‘qualifying day’ (to be confirmed) if all of the following apply:
your supplier was part of the scheme
your name (or your partner’s) was on the bill
you were getting the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit (even if you get Savings Credit as well)0 -
They do. However if you look at your electric provider - it will tell you who else qualifies for it. I get it and I'm on ESA (IR).0

When do you apply for the next year? Is it the last one?0

just a bit of a rant ....
i think scottish power are having some kind of mental breakdown!
sent off my meter readings and for some unknown reason have chosen to use a 'previous' meter reading that is actually 1200 units BELOW the reading that my previous bill was based on!
so now they are trying to hit me with a £350 bill for the past 90 days use.
and just to add insult to injury, they havent applied my WHD either.
i'm currently waiting for a call back to see if they can tell the difference between their @rse and their elbow

The customer service from Scottish Power is getting worse and worse (when you eventually get through on the phone!). I had to chase them up about my Warm Home Discount as well. I don't think I'll be staying with them for much longer unless their customer service improves vastly.0 -
Guess what British gave me today - a further £60 credit to put on my pre pay key, so that will be £195 off electric this year. Have not been able to get the £135 yet as my car is trapped in garage & this is the only one I can use with current mobility problems. Called the winter fuel top up. I did not apply for this, but I think it is because I am registered for the whfd scheme.0

you just have to love scottish power! ( yes, i AM being sarcastic
)
today, they finally applied my WHD after arguing with them for the past 2 weeks anout a totally ficticious bill that they wanted me to pay! ( my previous bill had the end reading of 2065, yet the decided to START this bill with a reading of 0656)
thats all sorted now and my account has ended the financial year £3 in credit.
so why are they asking me to double my direct debit payments?
they say because that is the amount of electricity i used in the last year.
eh?
i have a better than zero balance yet they say i need to pay DOUBLE as i use more than my regular meter readings say ive used?
they really need to go back to school

I also had a further £60 in addition to the whd from BG. Does anybody know why they are paying an additional amount and are other companies paying it?0
