I have a prepayment meter.....I rang Scottish Power on Friday and was told my £135 had been approved. I put £5 on card yesterday and had a £140 credit when I put key in.
Wouldn't have known anything about this if I hadn't read about it on MSE.

    I was exactly the same.
I wonder how many people missed out altogether because of lack of knowledge. :(
You would think that the power companies could send out a notification at some point and inform us that we might be able to apply.

I am not happy about this. I got one last year and sent to form off in plenty of time.
Do you think it is worth ringing them?

I think this is the payment without vat added, look on the vat on your bill this should be added so you get the full £135, its £140 next year.
  • I am seriously not impressed with Swalec. I qualified and received the warm home discount last year. I rang Swalec in 5th Sept 2013 to reapply and was told over the phone that as I had previously had the discount and my circumstances hadn't changed, that I would qualify for it again without the need to reapply. Well I've had a massive electric bill and no discount. When I called Swalec they told me they had sent some forms out to me on the 5th Sept but I never received them and it's my word against theirs, so no discount

I applied through Scottish Power in October 2013, got an email with a reference number on it but it's still not showing on my online account. I phoned them and they said it had been applied to my account on 24th March so fingers crossed it has gone through ok. I got it by the end of March last year through Scottish Power.

How do you qualify for this?

Do you need to be a pensioner or on benefits?

    Many thanks

I am with Southern Electric for electric.

I applied for the Warm Home Discount Scheme.

I was refused because they dont accept if you are on contributions based Employment Support Allowance although I was on the middle rate DLA side of the claim!!

As contributions based ESA is less money to live on in a week compared to income related ESA I was bloody furious with Southern Electric and I had a right go at them!!

I think its so unfair people on contributions based aren't entitled to any help at all even though its less money to live on then someone being on an income related benefit!!
