I think the rule is that if your partner is entitled to WHD and the electricity account is in their name they get WHD. If a someone qualifies for WHD but the electricity account is in the name of a partner who doesn't qualify for WHD they don't get WHD.
that means they would BOTH be receiving income based ESA and both are entitled the the WHD0 -
Scottish Power customers who are on the 'Warm Home Discount' scheme will be set to receive £50 from SP after OFGEM probe.
Taken from http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-24620304
"Scottish Power is to pay customers £8.5m after an investigation by industry regulator Ofgem into its doorstep and telephone selling.
Ofgem said customers were misled during sales approaches due to Scottish Power's failure to "adequately train and monitor" staff.
Consumers on the "warm home discount" will receive about £50 each. Money will also go to those who were misled.
The company has apologized for the errors between 2009 and 2012"

income related benefits have to be claimed as a couple if they are living together ( the OP says the bills are in the fiance's name.... why would the bills be in their name if they didnt libe at that address?)
that means they would BOTH be receiving income based ESA and both are entitled the the WHD
There are instances including in this thread where someone living on their own qualify for WHD but the bill is in the name of someone not living at that address. This is pretty common for those who are able to live alone with support but are nevertheless unable to look after their own financial affairs.0 -
I have a query on the warm home discount scheme. I am currently with scottish power and in the 'broader group'
I applied earlier this year and received an email response from scottish power with a confirmation reference number.
The problem is at the bottom of this email it says if i change supplier then i will no longer meet the criteria for the warm home discount payment.
My current fixed deal is coming to an end soon and i would like to change to EDF.
I have contacted the warm home discount people directly on 08456039439 and been told that scottish power cant do this. They say that if i was a scottish power customer on the qualifying date (20th July) then they have a legal obligation to forward the payment even if i change supplier.
I have it in writing from scottish power that they wont pay. I feel as if its an unfair tie in by scottish power that i have to go onto a higher tariff with them until March / April 2014 just to receive this payment?
Has anyone else come across this or could offer advise please?0 -
I have changed to EDF as I moved house and I have applied for the WHD with them. I asked what would happen as I applied with Southern electric and was told I will still get the money.0

this clearly isnt the case in this situation though.
even if someone else were dealing with the accounts on someone elses behalf, doesnt automatically mean that the bill wouldnt be in their name anyway.
i fealt with all my father in laws bills. i had permission to deal with everyone from utility companies, to the council to benefits in his behalf, but everythhing still remained in his name0 -
E.On to pay £3m over sale of 'free' low-energy lightbulbs to Irish
I received a letter which i don't understand, yesterday. I've already received my Warm Home Discount payment earlier this month. Not much use for my winter bill, although it paid all my summer bill, with some to spare.
The letter states :-
We've paid this £135 discount earlier than usual.
Normally we pay the discount a bit later during the winter months, but we've paid your discount earlier than usual. This is because we've agreed to make additional Warm Home Discount payments this year as part of a settlement agreement with Ofgem, following a mistake we made with an energy efficiency scheme in 2010.
Unfortunately there were problems with the way we managed a scheme to give away free energy saving light bulbs and we incorrectly reported the number of lightbulbs which had been distributed in Great Britain. We've since made changes to out process to make sure these mistakes don't happen again.
We hope the early discount came in handy.
Not as handy as it would have been as a payment toward my winter bill?...........................
Am i wrong in reading from this letter, there will be a second Warm Home Discount Scheme payment, toward my winter bill?
E.ON rep, please?.........................................

You post is confusing. You state that you are in the Broader Group but have quoted the rules for the Core Group. If you received a letter from the DWP to day you need do nothing and you are on Guaranteed pension credit only then you are Core and can move suppliers. Otherwise you are Broader and will lose your payment if you move suppliers.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -

I read this as they will be giving the WHD payments to more people than previously, not that they will give you more money.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
