Where did you go on honeymoon?

  • we both think that as a honeymoon it needs to have some kind of wow-factor!

I'm rather hoping that my groom will be the wow-factor on my honeymoon. :D

We're getting married in a fortnight and having a honeymoon in Salisbury, which is about an hour's drive from where we live. We decided we'd rather not spend a fortune as we're saving for a house deposit.

I don't feel deprived, I just want some time alone with my new husband, in unfamiliar surroundings minus three children.

I have family in Hong Kong who couldn't come to the wedding so when I got married in Nov 2010 we went to Hong Kong for 4 nights so OH could meet them, then 10 nights in Bali for a beach relaxation holiday.

I would really recommend Hong Kong, been there loads of times, but still love it. Bali was great, but it's so close to Australia that its full of Ozzies and they assume you are one as well!
    Got married 13/11/10 :)

We had our wedding and honeymoon in Cancun Mexico-we organised it all ourselves and it was heaven from start to finish-we were treated like royalty by everyone we came in contact with over the 2 weeks we were there-can't recommend it enough...good luck with your choice-wish I could do it all again.xxx:heart2:

Australia, four weeks touring in a campervan from Sydney to Brisbane, and then on to Fiji... truly the most beautiful place we have ever been to. Think desert island, nothing to do all day but eat, drink, sunbathe, snorkel... Yes it costs money, but the memories you will take home with you will last a lifetime.:j
Thanks all - what a lovely load of a replies... Sounds like you all had fab honeymoons :D

We were living in Sydney until last year, in fact DD was conceived there... And we spent Christmas 2010 in Fiji which was AMAZING! :p

I think because we've travelled to and backpacked in some far flung places and aren't really all-inclusive-package-holiday people, it kind of makes it harder to pick. I've been to Corfu before and loved it, whereas OH thinks Greece sounds a bit naff and we both think that as a honeymoon it needs to have some kind of wow-factor!

We would love love love to take DD round India for 3 months, but I'm not sure that would really be in her best interests...

Not to mention all the jabs you need :) Id like to go to India too, we never got to fit it in our plans, although with the tons of injections wed already had I was almost relieved :rotfl:

We went to Fiji but I much prefer Hawaii. I mean ok once you get away from the dump of Nadi, the little islands and beaches are really lovely and they are beautiful yes, but they are so small there is really not much to do there. I felt a bit trapped there actually! I guess I just like to have more activities to do as well as lying on the beach and swimming etc. And every island we went of course you can only eat at the one place, which I dont like. Im really glad Ive been there, but I dont think Id go back.

Hawaii is also not as long a flight.

Have you been to Vietnam? Im not sure how good it would be with a baby, but if you stayed in nice places it probably would be fine. We loved it there.

So anyway, where did you go / what did you do for yours? :p

Lake District, walked around a bit.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

We weren't going to have a honeymoon as we were broke.

The month before our wedding we went to my cousin's wedding in Scotland and afterwards took a 2 week touring holiday round the Highlands staying in B&Bs, so we counted that as our honeymoon.

However my Brother in Law came down from London for our wedding and, right at the last minute, we decided to jump on the train and go back with him. We had been to London many times but never did the tourist thing. This time we did.

We started off sleeping on his floor and him in his bed but my new wife got flu 2 days in, so it ended up with her taking the bed and me on the floor with BIL. Very romantic.

Fantastic memories though. We have recently repeated both trips and relived every moment (apart from sleeping on the floor).

A week in a gorgeous little cottage just outside Hay on Wye. Beautiful countryside, lots of walks, lots to see, lots of wine, open fires. I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere too far to be honest, as I wanted a relaxing honeymoon, and not spend a day travelling each way followed by not understanding the language. I'm quite in to castles and books too, so it was perfect for me.
