So when should I have had the implanon out then bearing in mind I am 17 stone and 5 foot 6? It has been in 3 years in June this year since I had it in.
My SIL (the one that's the same height and weight as you) had hers removed after two years. But realistically there isn't enough concrete data to say exactly when it should be removed, just that it's less effective in the third year for obese women.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -
I'm going to make an appointment with the nurse and talk to her about the depression / implanon / possible pregnancy. My appointment will be next week now.0

I was 21 stone at the start of last year. I am now 17 stone. Is this very overweight? Or just overweight? I am 5 foot 6 and stocky (I looked ill when I was 13 stone).
17 stone at 5ft6 gives you a BMI of 38.4 so not only are you 'very over weight' you are obese
i doubt very much you would look ill at 13 stone since that weight would see you as almost obese!0 -

If you fall pregnant whilst still on the citalopram, you'll have to stop taking it immediately which isn't the best way to stop taking anti-depressants. Far better to give yourself some time for your hormones and moods to settle down before trying for a baby.
No indeed. You need to come off your citalopram gradually over a couple of months as people get used to them and their head goes funny after a tablet is due if not taken . I know lol. So best way is to half one of the doses ( if you have one morning and night ) at first for a week or so
then half the other one by cutting tablet in half. Then wait a week or so taking that reduced dose. Then once you are used to the redused dosage maybe stop one of them, wait a few weeks then stop the last one. This is what i am in the process of doing and im on the last half of one in the morning. Please note this is my experience of them just giving you an idea of what i needed to do. Hth.0 -

HI OP.
I just want to say about the implant, obvious doctors don't all know the affects of it.
I had DD2 in 2006 and I wanted some contraception, my friend had the implant in and swore by it, she was 20 something stone, and told me she has to have her's changed every 2 years due to her weight. I went in at 14 stone at the time, no problem will last the full 3 years. The first implant I had in for 3 years, all I did was have spots, this one I have not seen one spot since having it in (been 2 yrs now). I have BP, and since having this in I have been having more down days, especially since this second one, but more confidence it's weird. AND the weirdest thing also is my hormone levels have gone to normal (used to have pcos, high testosterone levels), Those side affects for me outweigh not having it in.
As for getting pregnant with it, there is a small chance, another friend of mine did. But preg test was negative, it was a blood test she had that told her she was, then a scan and she was quite far gone.
And as for being on AD's whilst trying to conceive, some of them are OK, and have been proven not to affect the featus (sp). But that is something you need to discuss with the GP.
And I am 5.7" and quite overweight, but If I go to 12 stone ish then I look like a junkie, because I am stocky too. And I am a size 16/18. My friend who is 20 something stone (at the time) was only a size 18/20 get that..0 -
Well I have made a doctors appointment to get the implanon out, its a long way off, I have to wait 5 and a half weeks!!!! Its on 25th april!!!0

Bit of advice.
Try and lose more weight, you should be very proud of your weight loss so far, but for a safe and healthy pregnancy you need to lose a lot more weight.
You need to see your doctor about the citalopram and if you are well enough to come off it. If you do come off it what support mechanisms will he help to put in place to help you to cope without it. citalopram can cause heart defects in the developing embryo, so together you need to weigh up the pros and cons.
Dont let your immediate desire for a new baby make you rush into things. You should have your baby when you are fit and well, lose your weight and and ensure that your depression is under control and then you will be really ready.
Good luck x0 -
A bit more advice - you should really speak to the Family Planning people as well. Whilst your doctor can give you good advice, I've found FP a lot more sympathetic to 'women's issues' and they also have a bit more time to spend with you as well. Where I am clinics are drop in. Why not pop into one and talk through the depression/weight/contraception/trying for a baby issues and see what they have to say?0
