Confused

Options
Right, I'm 27 and my partner is 28. We have a 6 year old son together. I have been on the implanon since June 2009 so it is due out in the next few months. I have been having heavy periods about every 3 to 4 weeks lasting a week long for about the past year. But they cant be proper periods can they?

Aside from this I have been depressed with the depression coming to a head over the new year. Before this I have had very little sex drive for about a year until about the 3rd week of January this year.Anyway I went to the doctors on 3rd January this year with my supportive mum and partner and I have been on citrolopram 20mg 1 a day since then.

They started to work within 2 to 3 weeks which the doctor said was quick not not impossiblly quick, but he could tell that they had begund to work. Since then I feel mentally stable. My sex drive picked up around the 3rd week of January. I had a heavy period between 13th to 20th of February and since then we have been having sex most days. I have not had a period since then which is strange for me.

Since going on the citrolopram I have been feeling broody but through it would pass. The increase in sex drive wasnt linked to me feeling broody and I have the implanon in anyway. I told my partner I was feeling broody a few days ago and he said he might want more child but not yet, in a few years. I explained to him that we could afford a child, we have the time, space etc.

The last week to 2 weeks I have been feeling like there has been a water ballon inside of me which is what I felt like when I was pregnant before. I told my partner about this feeling on Monday, he thinks I am imagining it. My boobs havent been stinging or anything. I looked on the net about being pregnant with the implanon in and it says that it can fail if I am very overweight. I was 21 stone at the start of last year. I am now 17 stone. Is this very overweight? Or just overweight? I am 5 foot 6 and stocky (I looked ill when I was 13 stone).

What shall I do? I dont want the implanon out early and go behind his back. If I am pregnant my partner, I'm sure would come round. Shall I do a pregnancy test by myself to put my mind at ease?

Er, if you think you may be pregnant, do a test! In the nicest possible way, how would we know if you're pregnant or not!

TBH, you need to find out sooner rather than later. It's not advisable to take SSRIs (i.e the citalopram) if you're pregnant. If you are, you need to see the doctor as soon as possible. And if you turn out not to be pregnant, but decide you'd like to try (with your partner's agreement) then you need to come off the anti-depressants first.

As an aside, it's never a good idea to 'accidentally' get pregnant. If you want another baby, talk to your OH again.

If you think you may be pregnant then it's probably a good idea to do a test. If nothing else it could rule it out as a possibility for how you've been feeling lately.

At least that way you'll know what you're dealing with.

I dont want to get 'accidentally' pregnant. Would you say 17 stone is very overweight? Can the implanon impact a pregnany test result? I'll get a test tonight and do it tomorrow morning.

The NHS BMI calculator can probably help you with more information about what's a good weight for your height.

The implanon won't affect the result of an hpt. I don't know if 17 stone would be 'very overweight'. I guess it depends on your height, muscle mass etc.

The only way to be sure is to just do the test.... :)

I guess lkmc01 is asking because she wants to know how 'overweight' is 'overweight' in terms of whether the implanon might fail or not.

I doubt it's a question that any of us can answer, tbh.

But will your contraceptive implant fail as a result? Watch out! You might get pregnant
