I will be canceling my Sky subscription to support Virgin Media.
I urge others to do the same, lets show Sky that their monopoly days are over.

Just another Note: Sky did not make 24 any better, 24 was just as successful without them, they managed two seasons before sky bought the rights to show in the UK. Fox show 24 in the US

I moved over from Ntl to sky2-3 months ago, sky has a better choice of channels in my opinion,if virgins content were better and smarter priced then I will look at them, its called choice people,as for moving from sky to virgin for punishing a sly business move..I am sure "poor" "bullied" Richard Branson will thank you for your cash  Virgin could have easily soaked up the cost of Sky`s price increase but decided to act the downtrodden underdog...I have no sympathy for Virgin, only the sky one fans who have to suffer the fact that they are missing a favorite channel......

Why would i want to do that? I'm sure Richard Branson/Virgin can support themselves. What is going to be achieved by somebody cancelling their sky tv (that they actually want to have). It's not going to benefit me to cancel, especially if i go to virgin who don't have sky one anymore. If you want to do this then go for it, but i don't think it's a good idea encourage others to do such a seemingly pointless thing lol.

If a whole heap of people cancelled sky that would decrease their revenue and in turn reduce their spending power. Maybe then terrestrial channels will be able to buy back all those programmes that Sky have taken only for the viewers that are able to afford it. So these show will be available for all and everyone's a winner(apart from Sky shareholders and Murdoch).......Well I can dream can't I?

The link I gave is a site that has been running for a few months now. Im sure it would of been shutdown if it wasnt legal.
And its not illegal to watch it anyway, surely they cant do u for watching free streaming!

The best client Ive ever used for torrents is Azureus - note u need to install javaruntime - torrents are supposed to be free. If u see anything which charges u anything for it, then dont go there.

a good site to get stuff is mininova

There are a number of sites where u have to register, but its generally free to join. If u do this, create a alternative email like operamail or something. The use this for signups.

torrents isnt illegal but material u download may be subject to copyright and that is - but eh, the whole world is doing it!

for those new to torrents, well basically u download a small file which contains everything about the file(s) u want to download. In order to use this file, u need a bittorrent client - like Azuerus and BitComet.
2 types of users that use torrents - seeders and leechers - seeders is someone sharing, leechers is someone downloading.
Its a sharing community, what u share (note - no one can see files on your computer!) so its good to keep a decent ratio - basically try to upload as much as u download. Its only fair

More info - check out the Wiki Pages

Just some advice, unless u are net savvy, dont download executables.
torrents is pretty safe generally, I recommend u dont use something like KaZaa also.
Sometimes u may download a avi file (movie format) and u cant play it, this is due to codecs required so download some codecs like xvid and u should be okay.
Some movies are compressed into one or more files, usually its RAR so u would need to install the winrar (if not already), that is free s/w, just google things I said

Get one of the downloaders that have been suggested ( Azurus, which made my computer go really slow by the way so I don't use it, BitComet, which I use all the time and BitLord, which I have never tried) and try Piratebay.
    http://thepiratebay.org/

Select "TV programmes" and away you go.

A lot of the programmes are WinRar files that you have to unzip with WinRar. This is a free programme that you can download. (Choose the name of the folder as the same as the file ,or you can get files going all over the place.) You then get a folder with a file you can watch on Windows Media Player.

If you have a DivX DVD player, you can copy the file to a CD or DVD as a datafile and then play it on your player.

    Fair play
    Hello,

    Good to see you!

If you've heard some news about your non-premium Sky channels, and you'd like to find out the full story. You've come to the right place.

Read on and we'll tell you more below.

    What's happened?
Thanks to Sky, some of their non-premium channels, like Sky One and Sky News may be disappearing from Virgin Media's service soon. Sky Sports and Sky Movies are not affected by this.

    How come?

While we've continued to make Virgin Media channels like Living, Bravo and Challenge available to all Sky customers, Sky may withdraw their own non-premium channels from Virgin Media's service – in order to force you into switching service.
Virgin Media were willing to pay an increase in costs in order to get the complete range of Sky content and channels.
However, Sky has consistently demanded an increase that bears no relation to their channels' market value.
We have refused to accept this increase, since it would mean absorbing significant costs ourselves, and passing the kind of price increase on to our customers that is simply unfair. We are not prepared to rip off our customers.
So Sky have picked up their ball and gone home.

    What happens next?
As a Virgin company, we're well used to the attempts of large corporations trying to manipulate markets, stifle competition and rip off consumers.

Luckily, we don't think Sky's the limit.

We think the future's full of fresh entertainment and communication possibilities. And we're looking forward to bringing them to you. With all the freedom and choice you deserve.

We've launched Virgin Central, a revolutionary type of TV channel, where programmes start and stop when you say so. This is only available on Virgin Media, since Sky don't have the technology to be able to transmit it. What's more, it's available to all of our digital TV customers.

And there's our unique on demand library. A giant collection of over 500 films, 1000 music videos, 100s of TV shows – all at your beck and call. You can access them at any time.

We're not scared of competition, we welcome it.

Will we still be able to watch new Lost then???

:rotfl: This is exactly what I said, we could only have Sky in our apartment so when we moved here end of December we went straight to Telewest (mainly for the broadband but we got all 3 services because we thought it would be cheaper - it's not and we have less tv channels!) - What a big mistake that was!! I take back those exact words I said, I want Sky back :D
Virgin HAVE increased the price by a few ££ not just 90p! They have already done this, as my latest bill shows. They're taking the p**, increasing their charges and removing channels. Cheek!

I'd like you to tell us all how your bill has increased. The increases on 1st Feb were £0.01 on broadband, £1 on the family (now XL) pack and £1 on the non direct debit handling charge. Big thing is the discounts increased significantly - most will be much better off. Give em a call and ask if theres a better pack you could be on.
