I just wonder about the long term effects of changing over to Sky.

Once they realise how important these channels are to customers and knowing there is no other source to get them will they start putting prices up really high?

I'm sure that Sky would welcome ex Virgin customers with some good 'New customer' offers.

But would they forgive any previous (Shall we say) indiscretions just to have someone back as a customer??

There is so much fuss about this.

But in reality how many of the Sky programes do you watch anyway.

we only watch 24 on Sky1, and it isnt the end of the world if we miss it.

I dont like it but Branson is right - we cant be held to ransom by Sky or there will be no end to their price rises.

Does not mean that it won't either. It might not take a lot of viewers lost on either side to cause a real stink. With Virgin showing Lost on their 'on demand' channel(albeit a few months late) I'm starting to think that Virgin are starting to think big. They will bid for stuff that Sky had previously got virtually unopposed and should they 'bag' the likes of Lost or Simpsons then Sky will be in big trouble. Even if virgin fail they will push up the prices of these shows so doing to Sky what Sky have done to everyone else. I welcome all of this because 'what goes around, comes around'.

True, but i won't be leaving Sky just yet - not until i am sure i'd personally benefit from doing so, which i wouldn't right now as they don't have sky one or the facilities to show the programmes on sky one on their own channel!

Yes i know i could download lost from the net, which i have done until sky one allowed us to catch up with the US, but to be honest i'd rather watch it on sky one as it's less hassle in having a torrent programme downloading in the background on my pc, and taking up bandwith while i'm trying to browse the net. Also, i like to watch a programme called taste, which is shown on sky one, two and three - i'd miss out completely on that as i'm sure its not something people would put up on a torrent site lol.

I'm all for competition, but i don't like the way that both companies seem to be using the customers as a way to get at the opposition, which both companies seem to be doing.. and it's the customers that suffer in the mean time.

I don't think either side are in the right here, and agree that they're acting like children about this.. it's a shame i even have to be a part of it as a customer of both of them - even though this move doesn't affect me because my tv is with sky anyway it affects my mum though, but there's no real alternative if i want the services i want.

"Sky has created a 'rescue package' for Virgin Media customers keen to
keep up-to-date with Sky's shows like Lost, 24, Nip/Nick and
Battlestar Galactica. With this package, you can Switch to Sky for
just £15. This includes free equipment and free installation. Sky
will also be running a special catch-up weekend, where they will
re-run shows that Virgin Media customers have been denied access to."

That is the first channel I missed when I cancelled Ntl in December (3 weeks went by and we were without cable due to the poor attitude and comms of their c/s!)it wasnt available on our old Sky free system ,so I bought a freeview box.I am glad that I then I decided to get the 3 for £26 with sky though, especially with the latest shenanigans,I just feel for the people who will miss it :o You cant beat Jeff on Saturday afternoons along with Chris "Literacy master" Kamara`s observations,it is unmissable tv for all footy fans!

Well sorry daymo, but,..............more shenanigans........... you will only have it till July when Sky are pulling ALL their channels on Freeview, and replacing them with Pay Per View subscription channels. Seems like Freeview is hurting them too.

Dammit! I was about to ditch Virgin Media and go to Freeview purely to get Sky Sports News for Soccer Saturday. Now it seems there's no point doing that either. As I live in a block of flats and can't have a dish put up, seems I've run out of options unless anyone knows otherwise.

what are skys own channels then apart from the obvious ones? Whos is E4 and does that mean ITV1 aswell then as I dont have an aerial so will use my sky box for whatevers on there once the subscription ends later this month

Its really putting me off sky more and more, I hope they lose lots of viewers through this. I've never liked the 0870 numbers for faults etc and customer care. Most people bought freeview boxes thinking they would always get these channels, I think they are cheating the public. I wouldnt go back to them now unless they gave me everything for next to nothing and thats not going to happen
    Thanx

Well thank you for supply the evidence of why Sky wanted to increased there charges to Virgin Media. Like anyone seriously doubted what was really going on in the first place.

Also it nice to read that even on that Sky web site dosn't think that highly of Sky One. There only claim to fame on the site about Sky One is Simpsons, 24, Lost, Nip/Tuck and Battlestar Galactica only 5 program's, wow what great reason to leave Virgin Media, NOT!
