JamesM wrote:viera do you have some sort of personal vendetta against shopneo? You seem to be attacking them for anything you can find.
I had to cancel my card myself, it was unfortunate and was inconvenient to me. It doesn't mean that I want to see the company go bankrupt for it or anything though, the only people I really hold a grudge against are the people that stole the money.
Not at all, don't be so ridiculous.
I'm intrigued as to how can you hold a grudge when you don't know who has taken your money, in fact nobody does as far as we all know.
Until we know of another source to 'attack' then the finger will continue to point at Shopneo, it's only natural. They haven't exactly denied it wasn't their fault have they, in fact they haven't said much at all and it doesn't appear that they are going to based on Mr Owen's comment on his forum and the standard automated email responce everyone has reveived by emailing 'Dr' Jackson.
Mr Owen doesn't appear to be overly concerned, I mean, just look at what he said on his own forum if you haven't already done so that someone posted. "Its irrelevant where the details were taken from - the fact is they were used and they should report it. Its up to the police or whoever to come to us and ask questions which we will do if that happens - i have absolutley nothing to hide"
Irrelevant where the details were taken from, interesting why he thinks that, it's got everything to do with it!
It is very odd that Mr Owen is so reluctant to contact the Police, afterall, a huge multiple theft has taken place. I know I'd have involved the Police immediately if it was my business, I'd want my customers to see that I was doing everything I possibly could, not wait for the Police to come to me, what's the point of that! It's his responsibility to assist as much as is humanly possible. No wonder the crime rate is so high when people like Mr Owen just sit back and wait for the Police to come to him or whoever, what a ridiculous thing to say.
Mr Owen was quite happy to post on numerous occasions on MSE when there was the chance of him making lots of money from orders, but now this has happened it's another story.
I don't necessarily want to see any business go bankrupt either, but it seems like it's business as usual for Shopneo and this has all been forgotten about, it's not a good way to treat customers. Word of mouth is the greatest advertisment, there isn't much good going to be said in Shopneo's instance is there.0 -

so well said!!! brilliant answer to what I would have found an insulting post0 -
The bottom line is of course these things happen (although, whatever the redtops say, they happen very rarely) and when they do happen you would expect the company who you entrusted with your personal details to go out of their way to reassure you and limit the consequences of the 'leak' by contacting the customer ASAP so they can cancel their cards.
they - yes shopneo, I have no problem in attributing some blame to them - have done none of these things. We receive a letter, in my case almost a week from the date of the first fraudulent transaction on my card. yet I have received 5 different emails trying to sell me stuff in the month i have been a member of their site. I understand its a delicate situation, so send an email asking us to contact them, or not going into specifics, but no they CHOOSE not to.
secondly, when concern is raised via emal, we are fobbed off. they communicate on their own media their stance on the matter.
anyway, I have been in close contact with trading standards and the information commisioners office. they are obliged to tell me how the details were compromised, which they have as yet refused to do, and the informations office is the process of starting a full investigation into their use of peoples personal information.
Trading standards are very concerned with their perceived lack of security, and if it is found that the problem arose because they didnt take appropriate security measures with our details they will be in trouble. any before anyone stresses we dont know it was because of that - your right, we dont, and shopneo have done nothing to help us think otherwise.
To all those, like me, who have lost money I feel sincerely sorry for you. Contact trading standards, the information commisioner and if you feel it neccesary the police.
I have been charged by the bank for going over my credit limit, and I have had to borrow money to cover two monthly payments due out of my account today that I cannot meet due to this fraud. therefore, I want to know if shopneo followed all the neccesary obligations with my details. If they did, I feel sorry for them too, although their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. If they did not, I will sue them. and I will collect whats owed to me in person once I have the neccesary legal documents to do so.0 -
A good conversation going on here and I am all for the semi-attack on Neo. I for one, luckily, checked my statements and saw the weird transactions. I called to cancel and wondered mind-bogglingly to figure out what it was from and then that beautiful letter from the Neo family telling me that its because of their incompetence.
Lets get this straight, when you start up a company you have to see these things well before they happen and intercept, I dont mean the actual transactions but a system in place for such an event.
Send letters (they did do) and email every single person whose details they had when they made the purchase. Have a hotline that we can call where they can instruct us on the dealings and going-ons.
Work a close relationship with 'us' by providing transaction information to each of OUR banks (to get to the root of the problem). Work in relation with the police too. Itll help us to get the money sooner and put me more at ease.
Finally, compensation. Im not talking about a single CD-R in the post but you know what I mean, something to say, ''thanks for shopping with us, unfortunately on this occassion we have overcome aproblem, heres a voucher for your troubles''.
There is no working relationship here.
We basically gave them money, something happen at their end, they send letter saying cancel card. they just fobbed us off with gooooooo aaawwwwaaay and contact your banksss.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0 -
And its stupid for anyone to wish bankruptcy on this company because these people have without their knowledge dug themselves a grave from these unexpected transactions but because of the way weve been treated they have buried themselves in it aswell. Bottom line. I dont ever wanna hear about Neo or anything remotely close.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives

Would anybody who has already reported or is considering reporting this problem to the relevant authorities share any information they have regarding web links, telephone numbers and contact names with the rest of the victims?
Irrespective of where this happened and who is to blame a crime has been committed, my personal opinion is that a crime has been committed, it should be reported and investigated accordingly.
The only people that will have anything to fear from this are the perpetrators and their accomplices.0 -
Hi all
I had £400 taken out of my bank in 3 seperate transactions over a weekend about 3 weeks ago to a company called eurobet , I have got all my money back and forwarded neos letter to my bank so hopefully they will pursue this . :mad:0 -
I too had money taken to purchase credits for World of Warcraft and had to cancel my card. I used the card I had to cancel to book a hotel to take advantage of the easyhotels refund loophole and now my card is cancelled Im worried easyjet will wriggle out of paying me my refund as the card numbers wont match when its time for them to pay up.
I wasnt really that bothered about the money took and the hassle of cancelling as id have lost nothing really however due to the hotel booking the fraud commited on my card might actually end up costing me a lot of money.0 -
