World Book Day fancy dress

Our school is celebrating World Book Day tomorrow (march 1st)
my girls are currently into the daisy meadows fairy books - for those who haven't come across them yet, it's a seemingly endless series of books each about a different named fairy.
I suggested that DD1 (Izzy) go as Izzy the Indigo Fairy...my motivation for this was the fact that Izzy the Indigo Fairy wears Jeans and a Denim Jacket!
Then my DD2 (phoebe) wanted to be Phoebe the Fashion Fairy...unfortunately Phoebe the Fashion Fairy wears a white strapless minidress- not so practical for this time of year! We've improvised with a very pale pink skirt with some felt hearts stitched on. Tonight after school they're going to make their wands...bless!
I'll be interested to see how many kids are dressed up tomorrow, as I've heard lots of the mums moaning about it.
I also agree wholeheartedly with the earlier post about characters from films...apparently one girl is going to be the girl from High School Musical!weaving through the chaos...0 -
Another easy one is Harry from 'Harry and the bucketful of dinosaurs'. Own clothes, and a bucket with some dinosaurs in it.0

My two stock favorite ones are:-
1. pirate - very easy shorts, i have a tshirt with a skull on (49p sale bargain!!) and i use a bandana (freebie from a carnival) to make the headcovering - eyepatch made out of card - very simple and easy.
2. Wheres wally, red stripey top (or cheap white tshirt and marker pens could make your own one) jeans - my son wears glasses so thats fine! stangely ds wont wear my mums teacosy as a hat :rotfl: but still get the idea without it!
3. Boy on the Bus (ds fav book - its a really old book i picked up in a charity shop) red polo top/roll neck jumper - blue jeans.... done!!!
I do hate book days - especially when some mums go out and buy outfits from the disney store etc.... ds always loves his home made ones and has never complained! even if no one else has a clue who he is!!:rotfl:Debt free May 2016 (without the support of MSE forum users that would never have been possible - thank you all)0 -

Help. Have two daughters and no money! Thought about making a simple satin and net skirt, they have a tiara and maybe putting some theatrical make up on them. Any ideas would be most welcome0

Well she was the Queen of the Fairies so that sounds fine. Could you make wings out of 2 wire coat hangers bent into shape covered with some cheap pink or white nylon tights?
Generally at my kids primary school Book Day efforts can be quite simple (or they put on a bought Disney dressing up thing). One year ds2 went as the mouse out of Percy the Parkkeeper = brown T shirt, cardboard ears and some lipstick on his nose to make it red.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Fairies are good - the Rainbow Magic books by Daisy Meadows are very popular! Get the kids involved in making wands - card for the star and maybe attach it to a small garden cane? If you have any curling ribbon, glitter, sequins etc left over from Xmas, you could decorate the wands with that.0

For some reason I always associate titania with flowers or some kind of greenery in a circlet in the hair (think laurel crown) - prob would be easy enough to make yourself. Apart from this def fairy type stuff but not quite so much sparkly fairy IMHO .... what you had in mind sounds pretty good.
Should be fun to make
