  • My DS was Farmer Huggitt, and Babe the Sheep Pig. Dungarees, check shirt, cap, and cuddly pig under his arm.

World Book Day - link here.

What about going as Stig of the Dump! Just generally grubby and raggy in a loin cloth sort of style!

  • My younger 2 are doing this as well. As usual we have had 1 week's notice  not enough time imo. DD is going as Red Riding Hood (borrowing my wicker basket), DS wants to go as Hagrid/Sam Gamgee/Gollum - basically anything that's really difficult to knock up on no money in 5 days. I'm leaving it to him :D

I guarantee that the playground will be thronged with Captain Jack Sparrows and Darth Vaders. This really irritates me as the whole point of Book Day is to celebrate reading, not viewing. Just because there are spin-off books from films does not make the aforementioned characters book characters. Rant over ;)

Oooh I love book day but then I love making costumes. We don't seem to do them here anymore and the school do all the nativity costumes. I don't get to have any fun.

One year I sent DS as the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland (that took care of the fake fur jacket I still had left from the eighties) and the next year I made Thomas the Tank engine from cardboard boxes, dressed him as the driver and plonked Thomas over the top of him. Thomas was a very last minute decision :D
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Easy one if you're really stuck....

Get a white pillow case, paint it like a playing card, cut a hole in the top & sides for head & arms & they can can go as one of the 'cards' from Alice in Wonderland....

I've used pillow cases for numerous 'costumes' in the past.

Lots of Peter Pans already I fear as woolies had costumes in.Think i may have a dinosaur costume we could get away with as a hungry crocodile but thats if I can find it and it still fits!
If not Harry Potter may be an option as I have a halloween cape, stripey tie and old sunglasses I can take lens out of and make a badge.
Thought about cat in hat but no red paint :-(
Failing that possible a big spider by stuffing pairs of tights
I guess there will be alot of distraught mums this week!
My older lad is going as zorro later in week
