royal bank of scotland has sent us a letter saying that they are going to give us our money back and it is going to be paid straight into our account. Can anyone tell me how long this usually takes. Thanks

I sent a letter to RBS on 2nd February asking for £1112 plus £237.37 interest and they offered me the full amount of the charges (less interest) which I accepted, I posted my acceptance to them on 19th February. The money was in my account by 26th February. It was really easy to do.

Congratulations on getting your money back.
  • After getting £500 myself back and now helping my mum with various problems that we have, i decided to write for her credit card and bank card charges.

Credit card wrote saying they are not payin anything so am printing off the next letter to send to them. Now we also got a letter from her bank which is Halifax and they claim that they are allowed 8 weeks before they have to give my mum a reply and that is set by their regulator, the financial complaints.

Surely they are not allowed that long? If they are correct please can anybody help as am away to also print off another letter for them and will not bother sending that 1 if their info is correct.

    thanks

This is a delaying tactic. Proceed with your claim. Stick to your timetable, not theirs.

Just had a letter from Abbey, waffling about how it's taking longer than expected because they want to make sure a full investigation is done - they want another 4 weeks - more likely they are waiting for the OFT report!

The details about reclaiming say that we should use the Moneyclaim website but they don't accept Electron cards so I can't actually make a payment through them - is it really going to take longer if I download a claimform and post it to the court???

I can't really afford to pay court fees (I think it's £80 as I'm trying to claim back approx £600) as I am still on probation at work and lose approximately £200 per month. I have to take time off work due to having adenomyosis (similar to endometriosis), the Occupational Health department at my local hospital have said for the duration of my TOTM, I am deemed as disabled, so I'm not sure if I come under the exemptions rule.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Can anyone help me. I wrote to my bank, to reclaim my bank charges(nearly£10,000 in 6 years) and they sent me a reply in 7 days which said that they were sorry to hear that i was unhappy with their service and that a member of their team is looking into my complaint and they will write to me within 4 weeks to let me know the out come of my complaint. I don't know if i should send the second letter threating court action now or if i now have to give the bank(Abbey) 4 weeks before i do any more. Has anyone else had this problem.
  • You need to read the thread that Martin started it gives you the step by step procedure and templates of letters you can use.

I claimed bank charges back and it took 6 months in all so you do have to wait for responses to letters etc., The bank have said they're looking into the matter, so you'll need to wait the 4 weeks. If you haven't heard anything by then or you just get a nice-but-your-not-having -it-back letter, then you would send the second letter.

But as I say Martin has them all in his thread on claiming unfair bank charges on the main page so that's the best place to find out the procedure for claiming.

Standard letter from the banks, send off the letter before action on the 15th day of your timescale.

Standard letter from the banks so follow your timescale.

As regards court costs please read the Reclaim Help Thread and follow the links in there for exemptions.
