I recieved my letter today (well within the given 14 days) from Barclays in response to my first charges letter. it's a very generic letter (even enclosed a leaflet about there complaints procedure!!!) saying thanks for your enquiry, we will respond by 20th April.
I presume I just ignore this promise and send them straight back the 2nd letter saying if you don't pay me I will take this to court!?
Many thanks

Hi
I too received that letter from Barclays saying they would look into it etc but would hear from them within 28 days. That was 2 weeks ago and was thinking of sending second letter, but today I received offer through the post of a goodwill gesture.
You could give it a couple of weeks and see, but I suspect there must be some delay expected as everyone i know is reclaiming!!
Good luck0 -
Has anyone recieved the following letter my Dad recieved today: please find enclosed attachment:
Thank you for your recent complaint
We are sorry to learn that you are unhappy with the charges debited to your bank account. Please note the complaint handling rules set by our regulator, the Financial Services Authority, gives us 8 weeks to investigate and respond to complaints.
Our commitment to you is that we will respond to your concerns at the earliest possible opportunity. However we want to ensure that the issues you raised are thoroughly investigated. If, for any reason, we are unable to respond fully to your concerns within the next 4 weeks we will write to update you of our progress.
What should I do. should I give them 8 weeks or is this just stalling tactics. The longer this goes on the more worried my Dad is getting.0 -
I first wrote to Abbey around the 19th of Dec 06.
I requested for my money back on the 16th of Feb 07. On the 21st of Feb they wrote back and told me they would investigate, and that it would take 4 weeks.
On the 19th of March offered me £110, which I declined and threatened to take it to court unless they pay me 75% of what I was asking.
Today (28th of Feb) they write back saying they need to investigate it for ANOTHER 4 weeks.
I feel as though they are just trying to buy time until OFT report is published. Should I take it to court?0 -
The 4/8 week letters are standard letters from the bank and once your 14 days are up you then send out your next letter if you haven't had a satisfactory answer meantime.0

Any advice please
Lloyds TSB have replied to my initial letter seeking copies of statements/charges just before the 40 day deadline, stating they need further time (possibly another 40 days!!). Do I reply seeking an immediate response (cannot go to County Court as do not hqave the full information regarding amount of claim) or go straight to Information Commisioner. Has anyone actually complained under Data Protection legislation? Thanks0 -
I waited in today, no phone call.
I phoned and she was at reception, told she will phone me back. I waited.
I phoned again she was on her dinner was told again that she will phone me back.
I phoned again and she took my message and then got someone else to pass on a message that she hadn't heard from head office yet and will deffo phone me tomorrow. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!0 -
20 Feb - sent letter asking for statements
3 Mar - letter received asking for more details e.g. change of address. Posted reply on 5 March
28 Mar - statements received
29 Mar - first claims letter sent
I'm doing all this on behalf of my son who got into real difficulties when he was out of work. Hopefully everything will run smoothly and he will get his money soon as it would be a big help to him. Fingers crossed!0 -
hi guys in process of trying to claim bank charges .calculated amount and sent letter to bank demanding refund.the bank have sent me letter back saying they are looking into my complaint.to keep a long story short they say this could take up to four weeks or even longer. do i wait to hear from them again or do i send them another letter dated from two weeks from their first reply threating them with legal action. dont no what to do next as the way their first reply was carefully worded it could take them months to respond.
any help out there would be very much appreciated k moore.

the banks will just waste your time as much as possible, and it sounds like they are controlling you by saying it could take 4wks. I would write them another letter, i think its the 2nd letter template, saying not happy with that, give them until a specified date, when your going to take it to court, a waiting a week, after they ignored my 1st letter. then complete all the forms on-line, cos they will not pay until they have to right at the very end. Im having to wait another 14 days now cos they intend to defend my claim, which is a total of over a month ive been waiting since i started it, so i would just get straight to the court procedure and waste no time, you dictate the way you want to go with the claim... not them. read what to do on the claim website, or watch the video, its dead easy.0
