    hi there,

A while back i applied to reclaim my bank charges in one of my accounts, i chose the account with the least charges first - i think they totalled about £680. today i recieved a letter offering me £608. i'm thinking this is great, however they state that this is a 'gesture of good will without admission of liability or error' and 'to accept this offer as full and final settlement of my complaint complete and return attached form in the prepaid envelope'

now is this an offer to settle that one account or are they trying to offer me this amount to settle both accounts - they havent made this clear. i'm not sure what to do as my other acount has had way more chrges - about £1700

thanks for any advice you can give me!

  • Thanks chocoholicspendaholic. Rather boringly, I think we are gonna pay about £4k of debts off then decorate some rooms we haven't had time and money to do since we moved. It's our daughter's 6th birthday next month so she wants a trampoline. It'll be a nice summer thanks to RBS when they pay up!!!!!

On a serious note, I have found them to be most professional when it has come to dealing with my claim thus far - not like some horror stories you read about.
  • Hi,
First time posting on the forums tonight, but i thought you guys would like to hear, I made my claim against RBoS sent of the first letter and recieved the statements within 14 days, sent those back within 2 days and claimed back £6500 after 10 days i recieved a letter stating that due to high volumes they required more time, 5 weeks later (today) i recieved an offer letter from them £6133 (which i am accepting) i spoke to there customer services in scotland and the girl on the phone told me that RBoS are paying all claims to 95% of there value....

Many Thanks to Martin and MSE for all their great help on these forums...and of course to everyone on these forums for the support.....

Phone them up and ask, they are the people who will know the answer.

Legolass you should have received two letters from RBS stating that they acknowledge your claim and they are looking at it. If you look at the reference number in the top left hand corner of the letter it should have your reference number then - 1 for one account and -2 for the other. This is how they dealt with ours.
In addition to the above the third page of your offer letter (the one you sign and return) should have on it both the account number and sort code that the claim relates to in addition to the above mentioned reference number.
I assume if you have had one letter then the offer is only for one account.

    Hope this helps
  • Good news peeps!!!!!

My wife went to the bank at dinner and there were no refunded charges there. She has just checked online and they've paid up!!!!! Right, here is the story and timeline of the process.

    1. Requested 6 years statements for 3 accounts on 26th April 2007 using templates on this site. Request taken to local branch who forwarded it to head office.
    2. Received 2 accounts statements beginning of May.
    3. Added charges up and to our horror found that we were asking for £4944 and £2516 (£7460 total)
    4. Took letter (template form here again) dated 21st May 2007 asking for money back to local branch who, again, forwarded it.
    5. Received standard letter dated 23rd May 2007 saying they were looking into it all and would need 6-7 weeks to complete work involved. After reading posts on RBS thread, thought we would allow them the time they wanted.
    6. Phoned Customer Relations (0800 0155 035 freephone number for more money saving) on 14th June for update and the lady told me they were offering full amounts but letter would be with us before 19th July.
    7. On Monday 16th July received letters dated 10th July for both accounts for full amounts. Letters were signed and sent Special Delivery that day to the address they stated.
    8. Checked online banking on Wednesday 18th July at 2110 and money was there. Yippee!!!!

It has taken RBS 8 weeks to the day since they received our letters asking for money back to do their stuff and pay us back. I would like to stress as others including Edinburghlass have said that given the time to sort it out rather than threatening court and they come up the right offer. And they have dealt with my claims most professionally. The only blot on their copybook is that we are still waiting for the third set of statements. £7.5k will keep us going for a bit though. Good luck all and thank you Martin and all on MSE for support and words of wisdom.

  • Hi,

    Please help if you can!

I have claimed £1384 from the RBS via Moneyclaim, and they have written to me today offering me £1186. I'm not quite sure what to do as this is quite a lot of money to me, but obviously more would be good! :D Does anyone know how likely it is that the RBS would offer me the full amount before this goes to court, and how I would go about asking for a higher amount? Any help would be much appreciated

    Thanks, Anna
