  • Not been anywhere local over the weekend as yesterday had day trip to France & Belgium. Makes you jealous when you go into the supermarket there, the food section has a 'market' feel to it.

Nothing planned for tomorrow but on Tuesday hope to get to the farm shop to stock up on fruit & vegetables. WIll also have a look to see what flour they have in there as need to get some more baking stuff.

Watched a programme the other day and showed someone buying locally produced butter - dont know if there is any from Essex - anyone have any ideas?

Mrs MH - yes admit Leigh can be a real nightmare for parking - I used to try the car park at the back of the police station first.

This afternoon I plan to go to Felixstowe about 6 miles away to see what that would be like for shopping. Has a pleasant high street so might be okay. Am hoping to find a good fish store, as we love fish...will report back.

pop down to Old Felixstowe (past the golf course) and there's a fish seller(there most mornings iirc) selling fresh caught fish from the boats. You can't get any fresher!

and yes, the free range eggs from Happy Hens of Henley (open every day) are absolutely first class :)
  • Hi we live in ipswich, we have just bought our first house and move in, in about a month. We currently have no furniture - can anyone suggest good places to buy second hand (not antique - cant afford it) furniture.

As for your earlier post there is a farm shop at westley about 5 mins drive from the town (im not good on directions but my OH is if you need them) but it can be expensive especially the potatoes but they are good quality and they have PYO strawberries etc the people who own the shop are really nice and helpful

Excellent! Now you mention I have seen signs for it in the past but it hadn't registered with me before! I shall see what I can find out, but if you know opening times etc, I would be grateful for more information!

Have been finding out today about mini greenhouses in the hope that DH and I can grow our own salad veggies and herbs for this summer. So far, my efforts at planting things hasn't gone too well, so if anyone has any tips to help with our growing, that would be great!

I also use the Ipswich freecycle so may be able to help. Only problem with furniture is finding a vehicle large enough to collect the item in.
The local paper has for sale ads on a Thurs, that may be useful

I was in your area over the weekend, and managed the farmers market at Easton Farm, there was also one in Woodbridge, but getting anywhere before 1pm is difficult for us so we only managed the one.
I brought a fair bit (for me) of stuff back, and cooked the sausages last night in a toad in the hole. We thought they were the best we'd ever tasted.
I think I'm back the weekend of the 17th, but not setting off till Saturday morning, so bound to miss the markets unless there are any on Sunday.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.
