  • Hello!

I am off today as am off on annual leave. There is an 'organic' farm shop going towards Shoebury so I may well take a drive there later to check it out. I don't need anything but will get me out of the house! :)

Baked some bread rolls yesterday. Don't really know of any local bakers. Might have a little drive round today to see what I can find.

    Will report back!

  • Good Morning All

Today having a riding lesson in a nearby village and they have a little vegetable shop which only sells veggies they have grown so will have a look in there.

Mrsmortonharket - the Home Made Bakery in Leigh is the best bakers. Think they might have another shop in Thorpe Bay highstreet. Their custard tarts are delish.

MMMM!! do they have PYO strawberries, i really miss that since leaving home.... (1 for me, 1 for the punnet, 1 for me, 1 for the punnet..mmm!!)

Yes they do! And they too are delicious! They have a wide range of PYO and it's always worth checking their website for what they have ready for picking.

On a slightly different matter: What fruit and veg stalls do people recommend at Bury Market? Sometimes I come away disappointed with what I've got, but it can be very hit and miss!

I will have to remember that for when I am camping down there during the festival.

That is what I found with markets and I suppose that is why I started buying from supermarkets. Yesterday at the greengrocers I went to the quality looked good and there was the opportunity to serve yourself...thus picking out the best.
However my daughter regularly gets all her fruit and veg from the market in Chesterfield and gets some real bargains

We use Marriages Mill shop in Chelmsford for flour, yeast and oats and have to go in this weekend so I will try to get a price list. Wonder if they are online though you would probably have to buy in bulk. This would be useful for the living without supermarkets thread!

Where is this shop? It sounds like a place I need to know about!

Not had much luck looking for this online but did find this local farm shop that stocks the flour

Have marked the 17th March in my diary as that is the 3rd saturday in March to go and visit Alder carr..... I love PYO...when do the seasons norammly start? i have only ever done Strawberrys and once when very small we did Corn on the cob. OOH just thought do they do PYO peas? i loooove peas straight from the pod...

On the subject of Bury Market, i have only been there (to Bury) a couple of times and it was near the end of the Market and they were packing away, got some great priced fruit! Also if you have the nerve there seemed to be looaaadds of produce left lying on the ground so could be really moneysaving and go round collecting it. It seemed like such a waste but i wasnt brave enough :o

  • OOh forgot...not much OS for me today...maybe some baking later with the kids. Have been at playschool (where i am chairperson) helping out and catching up this morning and this afternoon i am off to 'choices' near Claydon to get some skirts (hopefully) for DD1. If you have kids and not heard of it before it is a converted barn which is now a second hand kids clothes shop where you can also take you childrens unwanted stuff to sell. Very cheap!! so i suppose very moneysaving oh i am being OS then thats good!!
