  • Hi, Viv.... we met recently (thanks for the books BTW) it is nice to know who is from this area. I have only been in the area for 8 years (originally from between Portsmouth and Southampton in a little village) but OH has lived in Ipswich all his life so i am still learning the area but i do like having an explore....

There was a weigh and save near the co-op in town, dont know if it is still there or if indeed it is any good as i have never tried but maybe worth a look?

Also i like going to Easton Farm Park on the 4th saturday of each month to the farmers market, lots of yummy stuff although fairly expensive. My dad did get 3 trout the last time we went though near packing up time for a measly £4 which was great as he bought it and gave us some too :D. Also my 2 dds love looking at the animals....

My mum visits an organic mushroom farm which may be of use to those who like mushrooms (eugh!!) i can find out where it is if anyone is interested?

Also Jimmys farm, not actually tried anything as again it is pricey but it is supposed to be really tasty stuff?

Thats about all i can think of at the mo but will be back if i remember anything else?

    Welcome Queen.Bess
Its nice to see there are so many of us in East Anglia. Thanks for the info about the scoop and save, can cross Bury off my list as a possible venue.Have been reading the Green and ethical forum and was really dismayed to find that the free range eggs I have been buying may not be as free range as I thought. I must be so ignorant. Will need to search for a reliable source now:

    I've been Money Tipped!
We use Marriages Mill shop in Chelmsford for flour, yeast and oats and have to go in this weekend so I will try to get a price list. Wonder if they are online though you would probably have to buy in bulk. This would be useful for the living without supermarkets thread!

  • Hello from the wild west! Great idea OP, but there's not enough folk from my neck of the woods to make it viable for me - all you easterners have taken over ;):D

  • Have just realised my other post is a bit confusing as i moved here 8 years ago without my parents and they have only just recently moved closer to be with the grandchildren.....

also have remembered that my mum (who lives nr woodbridge) took me to a nice farmshop fairly near her which stocked quite a bit including frozen pastries ie croissants, pain au chocolat which you could buy individually and bake at home...mmmmmm!

I will get more details when i speak to her next.

    Welcome....glad you enjoyed the books!!!

The weigh and save is not in Ipwsich by the co-op....know as I park in the nearby car park when I go to town.

Jimmy's farm meat is wonderful although very expensive....well worth a trip esp if you have kids as they can see all the animals.

Would be interested to know about the organic mushroom farm, as I love mushrooms

that would be brilliant, catznine. Would love to use the place as my OH's best man was one of the son's from that family [although he didn't go into the business]

    Hi

I also thought there was a weigh and save type place opposite the co-op in Ipswich - same side as Argos and QD but further down, past the animal welfare charity shop? There's one in Lowestoft but that's a bit far to go!

I'm in a village west of Ipswich and occasionally go to the farm shop/farmers' market at Alder Carr near Stowmarket. Shop is open daily and market 3rd Saturday of the month - or is it 2nd? Will have to check.

  • Hi Vivw and all

I am in or just outside Ipswich too so very interested in your thread. I don't usually post in the daytime either as work FT but working at home today so having a bit of a browse at lunchtime.

If you are going to Felixstowe this afternoon i can recommend the Sausage Shop (don't know its proper name) and a farm Shop, both are at Trimley. If you get off the A14 at the Trimley turn, go up towards the Trimleys then turn right at the roundabout (left is towards trimleys and Felixst) the Sausage SHop is immediatly on your right just after the roundabout. The Farm Shop is further along on the left. The mushroom farm is on the left too but I'm not sure they do sales to the public.

We used to live in Leiston and used the Friday Street farm shop quite a bit. Can be pricey though. The other farm shop mentioned by ?Want2save at Woodbridge is on the road to Grundsiburgh. Turn towards Grundsb at the Wyevale roundabout on the A12. Its a bit smaller than Friday St but sells similar stuff. Jimmys farm great but expensive.

Just realsied we have quite a bit of farm stuff here in Suffolk, but in Ipswich its not very good. How did you find a greengrocer? I've been looking for one for six years!!!

Enjoy your afternoon out Vivw - I'm off to clean the fridge out now!
