I was a veggie for about 15 years until 2000 when I met OH. He slowly got me eating meat through bacon sandwiches!!! Even now I only like meat that does look like meat ie bacon, ham, sausages, mince and chicken breasts. At the moment I always bulk out mince with quorn mince and OH hasn't objected. So your idea of more veggie meals and eating only "good" meat really appeals. Have bought meat at Jimmy's farm several times and have found that excellent and have bought meat from the farmers market at Snape. I'll be on the look out for other venues and let you know if I find anywhere good.We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
Hi Everyone, hope you're having a good Saturday!
DH and I have been looking at mini greenhouses, and may well be venturing into home grown veggies before too long! Really good deal for a small walk in greenhouse at our local garden and DIY centre in Bury (I think it's the only one in the country actually, but isn't too expensive and in some cases a lot cheaper than the larger garden centres), so we'll hopefully be getting that soon!
Finally got our compost caddy this week (only 2 1/2months late!) and have been looking on the St Eds Council website to see as to what can go in the brown bins, and I found a press statement which says that as from April all St Eds residents will be getting a free container in which they can put used batteries and attach it to their blue bin each week! It'll be a year long trial, but I thought that was a really good idea! Let's hope it helps St Eds remain the best recycling council in the country!Official DFW Nerd Club #20  Proud To Be Dealing With My DebtsDFW Long Hauler #109

Good afternoon Suffolk moneysavers
What a damp dreary afternoon we've had - good reason to spend the afternoon in the kitchen batch cooking some pies, casseroles and soups. The freezer is now full and the slow cooker is bubbling away.
The other day i posted asking if anyone knew of where I could get free range chicken apart from the supermarkets. Well, today i found the answer to my own question. We went into Ipswich this morning for our fortnightly visit to the library and found that there was a small farmers market event in the Town Square. There I discovered a stand from Oak Tree Farm which is in Sproughton, they sell their own home produced beef, pork, free range chicken and eggs. All sold direct from the farm so I will be going there next weekend for our first fix of local meat. We also bought some fantastic cheese made from guernsey milk which is produced at Coddenham.
hope we can keep the thread going.

Thanks so much for that. Sproughton is so easy for me to get to, that I'll definitely check out that farm....thanks
Border morris practise this morning , followed by a trip to the library [ up to now have usually bought my books but as they are threatening to take over the house, we have now started to use the library again...very OS]
This afternoon and evening have been spent reading, baking bread and flapjack
Hope all are well in Sunny East Anglia , although this afternoon I think the sun was hiding!!We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
Oh dear this has really suffered by being moved. Had hoped that it would keep going but maybe that was too much to hope. Seems like it doesn't really belong here as its about OS and not just local shops etc
Have been very OS today. baked bread , made a bakewell tart and a coconut tart and a massive load of mince and tomato sauce for pasta. Tomorrow I'm going out on a search for craft materials and a cheap source of flaked fish food as my fish are going through so much at the moment. We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -

This is an OS thread which East Anglians happen to contribute to.
It isn't an East Anglian thread which happens to touch on OS.
It really belongs back on OS, try having a word and they may move it back.0 -
Strange that moving the thread has made it die off...we shall just have to try and keep it going!
Well, out and about for work today and coming back from Norwich i have found another excellent farm shop. I think it is probably just over the border in Norfolk so a bit too far for Suffolk moneysavers, but could be good to call into if you are on your way down the A140 from Norwich or you're a Norfolk MSE!.
Its called Goodies farm shop and is about half a mile off the A140, going up from Ipswich its on the right hand side just before you get to Long Stratton, its well signposted in both directions. I was very impressed witht he veg - most of it local produce, purple sprouting broccoli, carrots, leeks and parsnips. Also free range eggs. Lots of other stuff too - the usual farm shop range of jams and pickles, cakes, bread, cheese, milk etc. Also there is a proper in house butchers and a cafe.

You're right - too far for me personally to travel to get items but it has got the thumbs up from my DH...he is a biker and he and his mates have stopped at their cafe when riding that way. He says it is very good.Buy nothing for a month challenge - Oct

Have been finding out today about mini greenhouses in the hope that DH and I can grow our own salad veggies and herbs for this summer. So far, my efforts at planting things hasn't gone too well, so if anyone has any tips to help with our growing, that would be great!
The farm shop is not open sundays and mondays and i think its open until 5.30 on the other days They have good quality veg there and the people are very friendly
Sorry i havnt replied before i missed your reply0 -
Queen.Bess wrote:Hi everyone, I agree Viv, such a shame, but at least if we keep trying to bump it up everyday! Had my first freecycle exchange last night, which was pleasing and things seem to start being sold on ebay. I've got 18 items finishing on Friday, so fingers crossed!
Regarding de-cluttering, can anyone recommend car boot sales, or know of any due to take place soon, preferably on a Saturday that I could go to as a seller? I know about the Woolpit one, but wondered if there was a regular sale in Bury St Edmunds? Thanks!
There is a big car boot sale in april at tollgate school(bank holiday) they do this every year and bank holidays the first one is usually the biggest but it depends on the weather like most things gates open 7.30am to get the bargains apart from woolpit i dont know any others look in the bury free press they usually put the tollgate one in there and any sales nearby i dont know of any regular ones on a saturday but again look in the paper starting now as now the weather is getting warmer theres usually something dotted about
There is also a fish stall fridays at fornham next to fornham three kings pub and also the one on the market wednesdays0
