Well, out and about for work today and coming back from Norwich i have found another excellent farm shop. I think it is probably just over the border in Norfolk so a bit too far for Suffolk moneysavers, but could be good to call into if you are on your way down the A140 from Norwich or you're a Norfolk MSE!.
Its called Goodies farm shop and is about half a mile off the A140, going up from Ipswich its on the right hand side just before you get to Long Stratton, its well signposted in both directions. I was very impressed witht he veg - most of it local produce, purple sprouting broccoli, carrots, leeks and parsnips. Also free range eggs. Lots of other stuff too - the usual farm shop range of jams and pickles, cakes, bread, cheese, milk etc. Also there is a proper in house butchers and a cafe.
Purple sprouting broc tonight with our lentil pie..... can't wait til the asparagus season starts!
I've seen it sign posted on my way to Norwich but have never stopped before but will next time....thanksWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
Hi Suffolk Moneysavers
Sad to see the thread is moving further down the board........
Not much OS news this weekend 'tho we did go back to the Goodies Farmshop again as we went to Norwich for a daytrip on Saturday. I can now report that their purple sprouting brocoli is fantastic, I could eat this for every meal with lashings of butter. Also I can highly recommend the free range eggs which they source from Hoxne, we had omlettes last night, first time I had made omlettes for about five years and i can honestly say these eggs were very good (should know as in the past I have kept my own free range flock...)
Been busy today clearing out the shed and putting stuff on freecycle.
I think it is the Farmers market at Alder Carr next weekend so will be going there. We are now committed to this local food/ OS style shopping.
have a good week everyone and keep posting.

Hi all
Have been away this weekend so not much Os here, but still tried to keep the expences down.
Did search on internet for hotel and got Holiday Inn Express for £43 inc breakfast which I thought was very good. They also have good showers in the room, so important I find. Saw my favourite band -Oysterband- and met up with friends, on Friday night Saturday was a cheap day as we spent the day in the Shropshire Archives in Shrewsbury doing OH's family history research. That cost us nothing as even our search room cards had digital photos I did on pc, instead of expensive passport types. And our tea was food I'd packed up from home. In the evening we spent money on tickets for the ice hockey in Telford and then drove home that night and slept in our own bed [very OS!].
Sunday was border morris practise.....
This week I am hoping to get to the farm shopOak Tree Farm which is in Sproughton, they sell their own home produced beef, pork, free range chicken and eggs.
have a good week allWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
Hi Viv and everyone
Just in case you're not sure where in Sproughton Oak Tree Farm is, its on Burstall Lane, about half a mile up the hill on the left. If you're coming from town to the crossroads by the Wild Man its up the hill with the Wild Man on your right.
Interested in your feedback. I haven't been to the farm yet but will go next weekend unless I get some meat at the Alder Carr Farmers market - we have now eaten all the meat in the freezer so our once a week quality meat starts now!
Another thing i have noticed is that the Co-op sell "exclusively East Anglian" milk, all sourced from local farmers and processed at the ipswich dairy. As we have a good Co-op in the village we have decided to get milk there.

Oh dear this has really suffered by being moved. Had hoped that it would keep going but maybe that was too much to hope. Seems like it doesn't really belong here as its about OS and not just local shops etc
Don't worry viv, there are probably many like me who read the thread daily, but don't post much,I find this a very informative thread, but can't input much of any use to anyone,I do love reading it though
Keep at it :A

Hi
Not quite a garden centre recommendation but years ago I used to visit a nursery just outside Norwich, I think it was on the watton Rd. Plants were extremely reasonable and healthy....certainly much better than the usual Notcutts etc.,
Another really good place to visit is the place that sells legally wildflowers [ they raise them] and old fashioned garden plants at Glandford, North norfolk. they have lovely grounds to walk through as well...well worth a visitWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -

Salhouse garden centre is really nice, the prices seem good & the little tea room is lovely. Only problem is it's not exactly convient for you but worth a trip for anyone local & Salhouse Broad is worth a walk round too.
Highway garden centre on the A146 (Poringland I think) is nice but more on the commercial side of things.0 -
Hi Suffolk Moneysavers,
How is your OS weekend going? We went to the Farmers Market at Alder Carr Farm this morning and I was very impressed. This is the first time that i have been to the farmshop at Alder Carr despite it being only ten minutes drive away, I'm ashamed to say. We really enjoyed the farmers market though I'm not sure tasting beer at 9.30 in the morning was such a good idea!! I found cheese that is made about five miles away, free range eggs from Gate Farm in Flowton which is proably about two miles away....all these producers so near to me yet it has taken me so long to discover them.
The free range eggs are fantastic, we had some scrambled for lunch, they are sold at the Farmshop too. The cheese is from Baylham and they sell from the farm on Fridays and Saturdays. We also got venison sausages from the Wild Meat Co, I have never eaten venison before but have just had these for supper with garlic mash and purple sprouting broc. They were delish!
Also got some Pakenham Mill flour which is said to be OK for bread, will be trying this soon as our breadmaker has recently been resuerrected (sp?). Really enjoying the OS style of shopping and cooking and surprised to find that our weekly shopping budget is unchanged despite turning our backs on the supermarkets.
Keep posting
