    Hi HBD

Glad you enjoyed Alder Carr Farm! We didn't go in the end, as I was hoping to, but hopefully we'll start going as the PYO crops come up and so I can stock up on their strawberries and tayberries again!

I've been trying not to go to the supermarket during the month of March and have been doing quite well using the market on Wednesdays and one of the butchers in town and it's worked out quite well. So it shows that with markets and farmers markets we don't have to be so reliant on the supermarkets!

  • Hi Suffolk Moneysavers,

How is your OS weekend going? We went to the Farmers Market at Alder Carr Farm this morning and I was very impressed. This is the first time that i have been to the farmshop at Alder Carr despite it being only ten minutes drive away, I'm ashamed to say. We really enjoyed the farmers market though I'm not sure tasting beer at 9.30 in the morning was such a good idea!! I found cheese that is made about five miles away, free range eggs from Gate Farm in Flowton which is proably about two miles away....all these producers so near to me yet it has taken me so long to discover them.

The free range eggs are fantastic, we had some scrambled for lunch, they are sold at the Farmshop too. The cheese is from Baylham and they sell from the farm on Fridays and Saturdays. We also got venison sausages from the Wild Meat Co, I have never eaten venison before but have just had these for supper with garlic mash and purple sprouting broc. They were delish!

Went to Alder Carr this morning with the school on a trip. It is the first time i have been there, and will go again as it is not far to travel at all. It was actually shut to the public today; all the children got to see the animals and we picked some leeks and purple broccoli for our tea!
I was also interested in the little shops they have there too, especially meadow green, which sells ethical/environmental toiletries, cleaners etc.

I'm looking for somewhere to rent in/around Ipswich and have to view a property near the docks, is this an OK area?
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

Whereabouts near the docks? Areas vary. Also depends on your age group, what you are looking for etc.,

have lived in ipswich for 6 yrs so know most areas

  • I see Vivw has beaten me to it - just the question I was going to ask, exactly where near the docks? There are lots of new flats on the riverfront and lots of building in this area. Let us know where and we can give more advice.

On the OS front I went to the farmshop near Grundisburgh today as we were on our way back from Martelsham. It was quite good though I thought the prices were a bit higher than Alder Carr....probably due to all the four wheel drives in the car park. Got some fab bread though and at good price, made by "The Cake SHop" at Woodbridge, anyone know where that is?

Off to Coventry tomorrow for belated Mothers Day meal.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

It's in The Thoroughfare. Highly regarded independent baker.
