We booked the venue in April this year I've got everything sorted since then. We have 60 for the day and 100 for the evening, the venue includes a 4 course meal, canape's, 4 drinks each, hog roast in the evening with loads of extras here's a link to our venue http://www.thurnham-hall.co.uk/

What I'm finding is the earlier you book the better discounts you get because people are desperate for the bookings at the moment.

Your venue is beautiful, and what a good deal!! I can't even decide what country to get married in yet!

We sat down last night & made a spreadsheet (his idea, I hate Excel!) on what everything was going to cost if we had the wedding on our initial chosen date of Friday 4th April 2014...we were looking at over £8000 JUST for the venue & food & drinks for 60 people, so once we've got photographers, flowers, all the additional bits we'd easily be over £10k (luckily I'm not paying for the dress as that's on top of the £10k!)

My mum is on her own & has said she will pay for my dress & the registrar, which is amazing, but aside from that we are paying for everything and it's just not going to happen. BUT our venue does an all-in deal for £5k, if you get married Monday - Thursday. As my fiance is a teacher & he has a lot of family coming over from Northern Ireland we are seriously considering the Monday (first day of the Easter holidays), which will give everyone the weekend to travel down & then they can head back on the Tuesday. A lot of our friends are teachers & there are no members of my family who would struggle to get a Monday off, so I think aside from it being a weird day to get married I don't think it will be a huge inconvinience and £3000 is a big saving for a beautiful venue we have our hearts set on. I'm just struggling with the Monday wedding thing! :)
  • Hey guys,
Thought I'd add my two pennith :) We've been engaged for a year and just short of 5 months, hoping for an April 2015 wedding. Lots of time to save as I am a student at the moment and also OH says he can remember big anniversaries! (Thought it might make you smile!). Hoping to do a MSE wedding for under £10k as we will be paying for it all ourselves. However, both our sisters have had the fairytale weddings and its really not us so that should help bring the price down (and keep the mother hens from clucking over what we should/shouldn't be dong). OH wants to be involving in planning, but we keep putting off sitting down and looking, so its just ideas here and there at the moment. Too many other stresses to plan a wedding as well. Once house is no longer a building site, we are sitting down and budgeting properly, guest lists etc... Already seen 2 venues we can't wait to go see! So I continue keeping an eye on all these threads. Planning to use "who we know" lots and call in lots of favours!
  • We're doing a Monday and it's saving us £2k. Be daft to spend all that money extra just to have a Saturday. That would pay my mortgage for a few months!!

Wow a £3000 saving, AND you've got the weekend to prepare!
    :)
  • Yeah, the £3000 is really helping me get over the 'Is it weird getting married on a Monday?' thing! :rotfl:

At the end of the day people who mean the most to you will be there that's all that matters.

I can recommend a photographer and videographer as they travel all over the UK they are really lovely people.

Please be aware of who you book if you come across someone called Phil or Philip Johnson and Danielle Johnson he's scamming brides out of money for videography I was one sadly but found someone who is really lovely.

If anyone needs any help just let me know

Yay!!!! Your 2 days after me! I'm so excited for you. Get wedding insurance now before you put down a deposit because if the venue goes bust your not covered.

Yep, I'm on the insurance hunt this morning, but Steph as you are the woman-in-the-know I wanted to ask your advice on this! Obviously there are about 6 places that offer specialised wedding insurance, the only 2 I've actually heard of are Debenhams or John Lewis, but they are also the more expensive options. Who have you used for your insurance? The moneysaver in me suggests I should go with a cheaper option, but at the same time I'd feel more comfortable using somoene I've actually heard of. xx
