  • Thanks Squish, I'm still stuck between the colour schemes but as I've told everyone it's burgundy or dark red I feel like I should stick with it lol. And red is OH's favourite colour. But blue is mine... Hope you hear back from your favourite place! Are you going to view the place that emailed you back?

Maybe if you've told everyone, I'd stick with original as it's easier. Have you bought anything in the colour already? I've seen on some forums people changing their colour scheme a few months before, so if you did change it now, it wouldn't be too bad lol

Hopefully we can view the place that got back to me. I like the sounds of it and it's by a river (something I'd like-I don't know why!). Taking the evening off from research though-OH had his appeal against his dismissal today and it was rejected, so we're going to have to talk to a solicitor. Which means tonight is a night for chilling in front of the TV with a pizza!
  • Well I've been busy since I was last here!!! Bought an antique solitaire ring wore it for a day but it's a litte big so it's gone off to be resized. Booked not only the venue but also the registrar!!!

Viewed the village hall and it's absolutely beautiful, has its own terrace and duck pond plus it's in the middle of nowhere and has 4 acres of greenlandmaround it. Was reallymsunny when we saw it and as long as its sunny on the day it will be great as we will be able to use the outside space.
Village hall is very popular for weddings and has lots of bookings already plus the registry office only does 1 Saturday a month so we have ended up with 26th July 2014!!!
Perfect for my education friends plus kids will all be off so I'll have lots of helpers for decorating etc. we are going to pay a professional venue dresser to hang drapes and cover the walls etc but I will be sorting chair covers, tablecloths and sashes etc as well as centre pieces and favours.

I've spoken with caterers and checked they are free. Sit down meal for the day and then hog roast for the evening.
Still got suits, and dresses to sort plus not sure on a colour scheme yet but considering I've only been off for 3 days I'm feeling quite pleased with myself!
Also going to wedding show on Sunday so hoping for lots of ideas!!!

Thanks double mummy! I've just arranged to view a third venue...i cant decide!!!! Cannot believe to get a registrar to an approved venue is going to cos £350!!! I seen a great idea on this forum that I might steal...the person had hired a candy cart and let the guests fill up a small jar (which doubled as name card things for the table) and they made their own favours!

Omg jars and sweets for favours!!! That's such a good idea, I am def stealing that!!!

How many venues did everyone contact/look at before you decided? I have 6 which I've emailed in the last 48ish hours and I don't know if it's enough or not =/

I've stuck to the places I love and I think would suit us best. I just don't know if I should contact more for some info just in case...

we looked at loads online and contacted our favourites. We knew we wanted a barn and looked at 4 different ones. We had booked 5 viewings but fell in love with number 4 and both knew thats where we wanted. Went back and viewed it in different weather and still loved it so cancelled number 5.

Have been quiet for a while as been waiting for it to be nearer the time... Can't believe its next year!! I saw squish was asking about insurance earlier - we did ours through E&L too and as long as you hadn't spent more than £1000, you would still be covered even if you had bought a couple of bits.
Hair, cake and photos are being done by family or friends so minimal costings - my old school friend offered us a half price package! OH used to work as a chef and his old boss will take us to the cash and carry to get penny sweets for favours which we'll put in some nice containers with ribbons. If i have time i'd love to handmake some sweets too but i think that's wishful thinking!!
I'll be doing the flowers and we'll buy silk so they last. Im dying to go dress shopping and have seen something i'd like but im too scared to find out it'll be too expensive! I also want to slim down a bit and im hoping to find something in Sept/Oct sale time.
Making our own invites and magnet save the dates are ready to send, just need to save up for some stamps now lol!
Im hoping to do the rings through a company called smooch... I want my ring to be shaped around the diamond and they seem to be fairly reasonably priced if you dont want anything too showy! Has anyone used them or know of people who have?
We're living with OH's parents as we've both struggled getting jobs with our degree in the southwest. They've given us a chance to be saving most of our wages which is fantastic but we have nowhere to store anything! Im itching to get things sorted and bought but at the same time i don't know if i shout wait as it is still 14 months away and i might see something else i prefer!
Hope everyone is having fun planning and sorting! Hannah xx

I contacted 4 or 5, we viewed 1 but weren't sure, viewed the second and came away talking about how we could make it ours and knew it was for us. Before viewing though i tried to find as much info as possible on other venues websites that were offering the sort of thing i wanted (they often have their brochure uploaded for you to see or id request in - think i had about 15-20 brochures).. That way i could get an idea of price or any extras without committing to see a place if i didn't think it was for me. It was also good to help me think of questions for potential venues... However, some places need to be seen to realise their true potential. Maybe if the 6 you've already contacted don't work out, then try others?

Thank you MrsBlake2B and hstrug! So far all the advice I have been give seems to say that we will 'know' when we visit. Hopefully one of the 6 I've emailed will be 'the one' as these are the ones that I think will be best suited for us! Will keep an open mind though!
And thank you again hstrug for the insurance tip. Have heard a few good things about them so will have a look at them and compare now that we're getting closer to booking things!

Sounds like you've managed to do quite a bit though Hannah! Well done. As for whether to to wait or not to do more, do you think you are likely to change your mind on certain things? I guess it also depends on what you have left o do as well!

Hello my definition! Welcome to the 2014 thread :) Ohhh your date is close to the one I want (23rd June). I'm sure you'll agree on a venue soon though!

    Hi Ladies,

Well I went to the National wedding show yesterday and to be honest I'm very disappointed with it. There wasn't half as many stalls as expected, lots of just honeymoons or weddings abroad.

Not worth the money or the 400 mile round trip.

    Steph xx
