Hi can I join the group??
Got engaged on Tuesday (my birthday) I've been asking him for years but finally he decided to ask me!!!
Have been looking at venues but we have big families so lots for daytime and hotels are looking expensive. Going to see a few on Wednesday and also get my ring!!!
Planning an April wedding, needs to be during Easter holiday as I have loads of friends who work in education.

Congratulations :T I was also 'nagging' for ages - it's amazing when it finally happens!
Quick, get looking for Easter. We considered Easter but all the venues we were liked were summer only venues. The second May bank holiday, think it's 24th/25th May was already booked for 2014 and we were looking in August last year.
Happy planningDebt free other than a mortgage but still always wanting to save money :j.
Busy saving for my wedding July 2014.

They have some good offers. Just don't get too carried away.

Thanks for the heads up, still not sure on save the dates but will check that out and might be swayed :rotfl:Sundaysgirl wrote: »Bluegreen - how exciting that you have a provisional booking in place!! I'm pleased to report that my Save the Dates are now on order, should have them next week - the proof is beautiful (even my OH got excited when he saw it!) and I'm so excited to start delivering them! I do love beautiful stationery, and whilst it isn't cheap, it's a decent price for what we're getting - and we're lucky to not need too many since we're having smallish numbers. Unfortunately I'm not at all crafty, would have loved to have been able to make my own invites etc.
Have been researching photographers for the past week or so, and hoping to meet a few in the coming days. Next to sort is our entertainment - really fancy a string quartet for the drinks reception, but also a jazz or swing band for the evening - and I'm guessing that wouldn't cover until midnight so then need a DJ too. Sounding expensive... What's everyone else planning? Any advice on costs/timing for the music would be very welcome!!
Thanks, I am excitedwe have now sent out deposit so are firmly booked in!
Have been AWOL for a few days as I had the week off work, it was OH's birthday, we've had a party and done wedding stuff - busy busy. I have got a celebrant provisionally booked in now(we're having a humanist ceremony, so excited!).
We have also chosen a colour scheme, which I was dithering about - black & white with splashes of dark red/burgundy. Although I googled black and white weddings and saw a gorgeous black, white and electric blue one and am now tempted to change my mind as blue is my favourite colour :rotfl: Can't decide whether to have the bridesmaids in the burgundy or in black dresses, OH prefers black I think.
Have actually thought about loads now, I realise - wedding fair obviously sparked my imagination! We're thinking of having a magician for the drinks reception and I'm contacting a friend of a friend (who is a professional), who I have already had do a work event a while back and I know I like. We aren't having professional photographers but are asking 3-4 people we know who are really good to do bits each (to avoid burdening one person with the whole day) so have asked 2 of them already. We have also decided to get a friend to make Cava cocktail (basically strawberries marinaded in brandy for a day or two then topped up with Cava - it's her speciality!) for the drinks reception straight after the ceremony, instead of having champagne - she was delighted to be able to help.
Feel like wedding stuff has slightly taken over my life and like I might be a bit obsessed :rotfl:
EDIT - Sundaysgirl - meant to say your bands sound sooooo sophisticated and "grown up" (if that makes sense)! We are having a ceilidh in the evening but are thinking of a harpist for straight after the ceremony or maybe for during it. Have you considered just doing an iPod for after the band as it will probably only be an hour or so? Word on the street is you can get apps to make all the songs fade nicely into each other like a DJ does!Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

groovychick69 - welcome and congrats! Happy ring-shopping and venue-hunting today
Sounds like you're likely to get married around the same time as me!
teabythesea and Bluegreen - yay that you have your dates booked - now the fun can really start:j Sounds like you're making amazing progress Bluegreen!! Love the black, white, blue colour scheme idea, the red sounds lovely too but never seen the blue combo before. Thanks for the suggestion re music, we need to find out what our venue will allow as it's a listed building so we have to use approved suppliers, but hopefully our own iPod would be ok. Had a few quotes for different options and it's looking possible... Just need to confirm with our event planner that our timings for the day are on the right track then we can think about booking!

As someone that gotmarried last year I would say to everyone to get a few quotes off different companies for your flowers/ cakes/ bridesmaid dresses/ suits etc as you may find a better deal.
I used silk flowers as they were cheaper and allowed me to keep my flowers afterthe day as a special momento.
I bought bridesmaid dresses that the bridesmaid could wear again (two adult bridesmaids) so that they didn't mind paying for them. Then I bought their shoes and accessories.
The men hired their suits from a lovely lady that showed us the exact suits they would get on the day, not like a big hire company that said it would be something like what we had requested.
We did a buffet rather than a sit down meal and didnt get any complaints from our guests. I think people liked the informal laid back feel.
Just make sure you are set up to enjoy the day because it flies by so quickly. Make sure you take lots of photos and video to watch back over and over again.Mortgage free wannabee 2022 #820 -

Yay! More new people. Hello all!
Bluegreen: Sounds like you've managed to get quite a lot done recently. Well done! All sounds amazing, and I love your colour scheme idea too, black and white goes with both burgundy/red and blue really well so I think I'd be stuck on what to choose. In fact I nearly changed my mind on my colour scheme, but decided against it in the end though.
Everyone sounds like they've done so much though, I feel really behind. I have however, finally heard back from a venue. I'd emailed a 3 or 4 over the last few weeks and not had a reply at all. I emailed one on Monday lunch time and had a reply less than 24 hours later so I'll be looking in to their as a possibility. Now to hope the venue I sent an email to today gets back to me as it's mine and the OHs favourite so far!0 -
Thanks Squish, I'm still stuck between the colour schemes but as I've told everyone it's burgundy or dark red I feel like I should stick with it lol. And red is OH's favourite colour. But blue is mine... Hope you hear back from your favourite place! Are you going to view the place that emailed you back?Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018
