Anyone having a 2014 wedding?

Oh great, pleased I mentioned it! We also found that pricing could be flexed a little - though only once we'd built a bit of rapport with the event manager. For example, reduced venue hire, not making you adhere to minimum numbers... so maybe worth visiting a few of the venues you like to get a better idea where you stand - may differ from the quoted web prices. That said, you might just end up falling in love with somewhere too expensive, so perhaps a risky strategy?!
So far we have only booked the church and venue, we found we weren't really able to plan beyond that until the date was fixed (and we looked at so many different dates in April!) so I'm really excited to be able to start planning in earnest now! Hoping to order our save the dates this weekend, just need to do a bit more research - I'm finding that there are so many beautiful options for everything that I feel like I might be missing out on something better if I don't shop around - hope that doesn't make me sound princessy, I just want to find lovely things but not get ripped off by buying the first ones I see!
Also this weekend we're going to our first wedding fairExcited but have heard mixed reviews so not sure whether I'm going to love it or loathe it... Watch this space!
Hoping to get photographer, florist and entertainment sorted soon-ish - after that I'm thinking it's just mainly a case of the finishing touches and things that are less pressing - cake, car, favours etc. or am I being super naive?
Dress shopping starts next month - got to be the most fun thing
How about you? Can't wait to hear how everyone else's planning is coming along, think it should be really helpful for us all. I'm really worried something hugely important will get overlooked, so hopefully hearing what everyone else is up to with their planning will avoid that!!

Squish - how rubbish about your OH, hope he gets something really soon!
Went to view two more venues at the weekend, glad I went but I actually felt as bit overwhelmed and was really grumpy with both my mum and OH... had a long chat with OH afterwards and partly I was stressed about other stuff, but partly I feel like we're moving farther away from what we want with each venue, as it becomes apparent it'll be really difficult/impossible to get what we want.
Soi glad we spoke about it, it was really great to have a long chat again about what we want and reaffirm we both want the same thing, and we're going into this weekend with renewed enthusiasm. Just need to apologise to my mum for being really grumpy first :rotfl:Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

Sorry for the delayed reply, had put planning etc on hold for a week or so while we tried to get our heads round it all. We'll manage to get what we want somehow I think, will just take a bit more looking and research to do so!
Sundaysgirl- Thank you for your advice. Think the best idea is to contact venues first to get an idea of prices THEN look at the ones that are likely to tick all boxes!
You don't sounds princessy at all! You want things to be perfect so it's worth looking around. What kind of thing are you looking for? Oh and how was the wedding fair?
Thank you Bluegreen143! Have got my fingers and toes crossed that all will fall in to place soon!
Sounds like it's been stressful for you too! But at least you've had another talk and know what it is you want. I think sometimes it's so overwhelming that you forget what it is exactly you wanted in the first place. Sometimes you need to take a stop back and have a chat before you jump back in!
What's everyone up to at the weekend? Aside from seeing some family over the weekend, I will mostly be emailing a few venues that I always seem to keep coming back to when thinking about everything. I just need some idea of prices before I decide to go have a look and possibly fall in love with somewhere lol0 -
Hi everyone - hope the wedding planning has been going well!
Went to view some more venues at the weekend, the first three were rubbish but the fourth was THE ONE and we have now provisionally booked for 01/03/14 :j:j:j so relieved that we have a date and venue now! Going to a big wedding fair this weekend with OH's mum and my sister (who in addition to being my MOH has also just announced her engagement at the weekend, my mum just about fell over with shock at both daughters being engaged lol! :rotfl: she's not planning the wedding til ages after mine for various reasons which is good, one thing at a time to focus on!).
Squish, enjoy your weekend emailing venues. Makes sense to be certain of the prices first, we didn't go and see anything too expensive as we are paying for most of the wedding ourselves, minus gifts from my mum & stepdad and my dad, so need to stick to the budget in order to afford a honeymoon! Sure all your research will pay off and it'll be so exciting when you finally find the right place
Sundaysgirl, did you get your save the dates ordered? Just got one through for a friend's wedding and it was really nice, made me think "damn, can't use anything like that" though :rotfl: although we're now thinking we might skip save the dates and email everyone to save money... not sure yet as I do like nice stationery!Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

So excited!
I'm July too
We've been engaged since August, can't believe that's already 6 months. All the venues we liked were summer venues, although I was quite liking the idea of an Easter wedding.
Church is booked, so is the reception venue. We are now trying to sort out a hotel for night before wedding for me to get ready in and stay at after the wedding. The one we had in mind is only a small hotel that holds weddings, so is booked up for May to October 2014 on every Saturday already.
Debt free other than a mortgage but still always wanting to save money :j.
Busy saving for my wedding July 2014.

Hi,
Can I join the 2014 party? We got engaged on new year's eve and have already booked our venue for 5 April next year. I'm looking forward to all the planning, we've got lots to do as the reception venue is just a barn so we have to get our own caterers, booze, decorations etc etc. It's made slightly more difficult by getting married in West Yorkshire and living in London but sure we'll manage!0
