Anyone having a 2014 wedding?

  • Hey everyone,

I was on the April 2013 brides thread, but unfortunately we have made the decision this weekend to postpone our wedding. I have mixed feelings - at the moment, absolutely gutted. I have spent almost two years planning our day but due to difficult financial and family circumstances, we can't get married this year.

I really need some advice (and a pick-me-up!) - I don't want us to lose out on everything we have paid for. I have purple (cadbury sort of shade) bridesmaid dresses and cravats. I don't know what time of year this would be suitable for for next year!

Firstly, I thought Autumn. Purple with deep golds, Autumn leaves, that sort of thing. But then that would mean I'd have to wait until at least next October. I know I sound a bridezilla but when I have been waiting this long, I kind of think, do I want to be waiting longer? I don't know, my head feels a bit all over the place, so any thoughts appreciated. xx

I think purple could go with any season, find out what flowers are in season when and see which you would like to go with the purple ones that you like
  • Purple is for any season really love, It's very popular at the moment too :)

Who was it who said, good things come to those who wait.

Your still going to get married it might not be the year or date you want but as long as you get married that's the main thing?

Plus you get to join us lovely lot :)

  • Thank you lovely ladies. New wedding magazine bought today, time to see what I fancy matching with purple. Have already contacted a couple of venues as well (thought there was no harm in looking!) so fingers crossed. Sorry I'm probably a bit behind, but where are you ladies up to in your planning? xx

  • I joined this thread ages ago and now I can finally say we have set a date for July 2014 :T:j
    So excited!
  • Hello everyone :D

I can't believe that the wedding is happening NEXT YEAR.

Or that an entire year has gone by and I have achieved virtually nothing!

I do have a venue in mind, that we are viewing in April. I have booked in two caterers for trials while we are out in Italy and will be making a decision then.

I have plans and lists aplenty and a very snazzy spreadsheet!

And I have about 1000 pictures on Pinterest of my various schemes and ideas. :rotfl:

And the savings are totting up nicely.

    Left to do...well, almost everything.

I must buy insurance before we put any deposits down.

I won't buy a dress until next year as I change my mind pretty much on a weekly basis.

    Ditto children's clothes.

Photographer is my mate so that is sorted- hurrah!

No need to book ceremony as a friend is doing this.

Can book legal ceremony in England nearer the time.

Rings...haven't even begun to think about this yet.

Really, I need to wait until I get a firm booking on the venue before I can start collecting things. It's all very exciting though :T :T:T

Can anyone think if I am missing anything? x

You can do some lovely summery things with purple, like purple, pink and orange or purple and aqua. Like this for example:

  • planning on a feb 2014 wedding
  • Hello (again... I think)

We have booked our venue for the 1st of November 2014! :) Had planned on an autumn wedding anyway but chose that date as was 500 pounds cheaper than the one we originally wanted. I know it's massively far in advance but wanted to make sure we had it as the venue is really popular and ticks all our boxes.

Also does anyone else feel a bit like they're much further ahead than they should be with their planning? I have quite a lot of ideas of what I'd like in terms of colours, flowers, cake, food etc and have got a bit overwhelmed bywedding magazines and blogs, but feel I should be more 'oh I don't know' about stuff. Not that I'm not open to ideas but if I keep looking I'll just want loads of different and possibly expensive things and not make any decisions...

Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")
  • Hi all! How's the planning coming along?

I was thinking about wedding insurance the other day and was wondering if any of you had purchased some.

If so, did you buy it BEFORE you booked anything? Also, which provider did you go with?
