Anyone got their dress yet or been dress shopping? i'm going for my first mooch on friday. Am nervous but looking forward to it!

Good luck with your first look :) I was nervous before going into a dress shop too, but honestly you don't need to be! All staff have been pretty accommodating, and no pressure...although conveniently there is always a "one week only" (yeah right) 10% off offer to convince you to buy it there and then. They will probably ask you what sort of thing you are looking for...if you have an open mind, say so and ask for suggestions! Tell them this is your first look for dresses too, they will know you are likely to want to look around at all sorts of styles etc.

I was also a bit worried about the shop assistant helping me into dresses etc. It isn't as bad as it sounds, I wore modest underwear. The first time I wore leggings and didn't take them off ;) Do whatever you feel comfortable with.

    Have fun!:T

How did you get on? I haven't been yet, but also feeling apprehensive about it.

Not being a dress girl i was dreading it, but had decided that i would try a range of dresses on. I took my mum and 2 bridesmaids to a small little family owned boutique and the experience was a pleasant one. I tried on about 12 dresses but have to be honest got a bit fed up half way through. I liked a few of them but none of them gave me wow factor. Have contacted another dress shop for appointment in feb. I'm trying to avoid the bigger dress shops to begin with as don't want to feel pressured into anything.

Glad it went well. I saw one by Augusta Jones that I really love and whilst having a nosey on Preloved, found the exact dress in my city for sale. £900, they had paid £1800. I am tempted to try it on and it's my size too but I don't want to just settle for it. :embarasse It's such a big decision.

  • Yay we get married next year!

I've been dress shopping this week. Went to a lovely quite large shop on Monday with my mum and my sis (aka chief bridesmaid). First dress I tried on was horrendous. I'm not that short (5 ft 3) but felt like a child playing dress up. Managed to find 2 dresses that we all like but I just can't justify the price. Trying to do the whole thing on 5k and these dresses were £900. I have found online that I can get one of them made in china for 1/3rd of the price but obviously it won't be as nice, and then I feel bad because the bridal shop was so helpful and accommodating.

Doesn't help that my fiancee would happily get married next week in a smart outfit pulled from the wardrobe. I don't want a big wedding but I do want it to be special! Anyone else fretting about it all already?

Hi, I got engaged to new years day :) and we're hoping to get married in 2014. I've spent the week since searching online trying to find a venue but everywhere seems so expensive! We have a total budget of about 10k which I don't think is that low (?!) but I'm now wondering if we'll be able to afford the wedding we want. Does anyone have any tips or advice for venue hunting?

They may have different prices for different times of year, plus non saturday weddings, so it would depend on when you wanted the wedding too for price
