    Hi,

Can I join the 2014 party? We got engaged on new year's eve and have already booked our venue for 5 April next year. I'm looking forward to all the planning, we've got lots to do as the reception venue is just a barn so we have to get our own caterers, booze, decorations etc etc. It's made slightly more difficult by getting married in West Yorkshire and living in London but sure we'll manage!

    YAY!!!! Date twin!!!!!! :j:j:j:beer::beer::beer:

I've waited for so long for a date twin!!!!!

Wow, lots of catching up to do on this thread!

    Welcome Fleur and HankScorpio :)

Squish - any progress on the venue hunt? The wedding fair was actually ok - gave us some ideas and also confirmed the kind of things we definitely don't want. I think it would be most useful if looking for a dress or accessories, however - so many bridal dress stalls! So I'm going to save my money and give the national wedding show a miss next month, maybe go later in the year.

Bluegreen - how exciting that you have a provisional booking in place!! I'm pleased to report that my Save the Dates are now on order, should have them next week - the proof is beautiful (even my OH got excited when he saw it!) and I'm so excited to start delivering them! I do love beautiful stationery, and whilst it isn't cheap, it's a decent price for what we're getting - and we're lucky to not need too many since we're having smallish numbers. Unfortunately I'm not at all crafty, would have loved to have been able to make my own invites etc.

Have been researching photographers for the past week or so, and hoping to meet a few in the coming days. Next to sort is our entertainment - really fancy a string quartet for the drinks reception, but also a jazz or swing band for the evening - and I'm guessing that wouldn't cover until midnight so then need a DJ too. Sounding expensive... What's everyone else planning? Any advice on costs/timing for the music would be very welcome!!

Steph - rings are next on my list! Figure it's a good idea to fix the cost now (we can order with a small deposit) and will still be able to change minds about the style, and resize if needed. Also should be a simple enough thing to tick off the list since we both want just plain bands.

Phew - another long post, sorry!!

    hi everyone
Thought I'd already posted on here but can't see that I did...
I'm getting married on Fri 3rd January 2014....still seems like ages away but I know it's going to come round quite quickly. We've been engaged since 6/10/12, and our wedding day will be 10 years together!!

OH has been very organised (he's a project manager) and we've booked & paid for venue, chair covers & photographer already! And a won a competition for £500 towards handmade wedding rings, so we've been and chosen those and they'll be ready in a couple of weeks (typically though I went for the expensive option and still need to pay £250 towards it but I convinced OH it's MSE because I've saved us £500!)
Saved a bit by picking a Friday, and also we're going for corkage and our own wine on the tables - venue was £16 a bottle, corkage is £7 and the wine we like can hopefully be bought at about £5 a bottle, so still making a saving. They're also being helpful and said they have lots of things hat can be used as centrepieces, so might save a bit there too...
Going to National Wedding Show in Birmingham next week, really excited about that - I have lots of ideas already but want to see things in the flesh rather than just magazines & internet.
Thinking about going to a bridal shop soon, probably on my own at first to get some ideas of what I like, and then will go again with Mum & bridesmaid.
Seen a band we like, but then realised it's the same one my cousin is having for her wedding 3 months after us - oh doesn't see the issue, likelihood that it is only our mutual family that will be at both weddings so is it really an issue? I think I'd be a bit upset if it was the other way round and she picked something I wanted...don't really know what to do about that.
It's going to be a busy year for us all :)

  • Sundaysgirl Even ideas on what you defiantly don't want is good! Saves you wasting time trying to decide if you should or shouldn't have them! Nothing so far on the venue hunt, but I have found 2 I really like. I'm off work tomorrow so I'll be emailing them!
I also found out today that where I work (a university) does weddings but having thought about it, I think it would drive me crazy as it would feel like I was never away from work. My OHs ex studied there too and I think that would make it weird!

And *waves* hello apple*pie! Wow, sounds like you've done really well already!
