    Hey Jo,

The keys were from ebay, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160858396975?var=460103874080&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 these were the ones we went for as samples and picked the mixed lot :) £2.60 for 10 delivered so not bad, although they took ages to arrive as they are from china!

I liked your idea of a prize draw using them! Thats definitely a possibility!

CompBunny I am in love with those keys!!! Just need a reason to buy them now :)

I hadn't even realised that after new year I can say I'm getting married next year :D how exciting! Although a little worrying when I look at the savings

So funny reading everyones experiences of trying on dresses.
I'm not very shy really and will just strip off infront of anyone (within reason) but all my sales ladies have been really good with the privacy thing, I feel a bit left out! :rotfl:
  • ha ha, great post there dubprincess :)

what date is your wedding? I felt a bit  when I checked our savings account last night, saying that it's pay day on 24th for me, so that will give it a little boost....:rotfl:
  • compbunny, wow, £2.60 delivered thats amazing - we're having 30 at our day event, so that would be under £8 for the whole lot.
Hope you don't mind me pinching your idea :o

Has anyone had any thoughts on wedding cakes? My other half got a brochure from Marks and Spencer and they have some pretty decent cakes there which aren't too expensive (compared to others I have seen).

my artist friend is going to make me the cake topper as my wedding present - it will be of me, hubby and our dog. :)
  • Hiya Jostenning :)

Our date is 9th August 2014 :D feels far too far away but at the same time we're trying to save for a house as well!!! May have been a bit too optimistic there :P

I'm trying to buy littles things every month out of any leftover money after things have gone into savings etc so that the savings can be for the BIG things like the venue (which we pay the deposit on tonight! eeeeeeeeeeek)

Go ahead and steal away, and enjoy! :D When you pick some out make sure you check the measurements though as some on ebay are tiny and also that they are double sided if this is important to you.

RE Wedding cakes, we are thinking of M&S as well. Are you going for a DIY one or a ready decorated one? We are most likely going to buy just the individual layers and stack them ourselves (fruit on bottom, 2 x sponge layers on top) and decorate with ivory lace fastened with pearl pins around each layer and either a tasteful family brooch on the middle layer or some foam flowers in our colours on top. Would work out at well under £100. You are lucky to have an artist friend to make your topper, Jo!!! What sort of dog do you have? We were looking into getting a model made of us and our dog but they are SO expensive online!

Good luck with paying your deposit tonight DubPrincess!

What are you guys up to with savings? It is H2B's payday today, which will tip us just over £3000 for the wedding (plus whatever change we have put in the physical wedding pot!)...but amount we can save each month will drop dramatically soon so I'm glad we have a good start!

  • Dubprincess, we are doing similar to you - as in the main things out of the savings and I've been buying little bits and pieces out of my own money.

So far, we have put a £500 deposit on the venue (so around £2k left to pay off the balance).

My dress, veil, headress and shoes are paid for (total £307, that's £30 for dress, veil and headress) and £7 for a brand new pair of shoes on ebay :T)

We are trying to save £200 per month into the wedding fund.

compbunny, not sure about the cake yet, I was just looking at the ones which were "ready assembled" in the M&S brochure, I'm not very creative so might be a case of plonk the topper on ourselves, lol.

our dog is a crossbreed, he is black and tan like a rottweiler. he's not going to come to the actual wedding as it would be too much of a long day.

    thanks for the "keys" tip.

ps. if you wanted, I could ask my friend for a rough idea of the price of her wedding toppers, let me know what you think.

if you do contact her, tell her you were recommended by Jo and Toby. She's lovely and there won't be any pressure sales etc.
  • Wow you guys all seem to have so much money put away for your weddings.

We have paid deposits on most things - dress, BM dresses (x 5), venue, church, reception DJ, cake, cars but thats about as far as we have got. We keep paying money every month off them and then the rest will get bought as and when (we are terrible at saving there is always something that needs buying).

Doesnt help that I was made redundant and finish tomorrow :( so need a job asap otherwise things will be come very tight and wont be able to put anything towards the wedding pot - but hey there are worse things that can happen and we are better off than most.

Keep looking at my dress online and remembering that this is about marrying the man I love and if things have to be cut back then so be it :D

Jo thanks for that link! I have had a look and her prices are much more reasonable than others we have seen! However, I think at this point our budget is so fuzzy we need to wait and see where we can allocate "extras" money to. If we go for toppers I'll give her an email and say you sent me! She did a great job of your Toby figure, really cute :)

Sounds like you are all doing great to have a) booked things up b) put down deposits!! I'm sorry about your redundancy mrsdtobe. Are there many vacancies suitable for you in your area? You are so right that its about marrying the man and not the day :) I plan on following Jo and getting a bargain dress, I've never seen a bride that doesn't look beautiful no matter what the dress costs high or low!

So far we have spent £2.60 on keys £2 on tags, £3.50 on a heart punch, £7.50 on 15 bargain ivory tulle rolls, £5 on some foam roses to tie into the tulle for pew ends, £8 for storage boxes to keep them all in and that is it so far! £28.60 total. We really need to hurry up and get our venue booked! I just want to visit two more out of interest in case they sweep me away.

mrsdtobe, ignore this if you want hehe but when my hubby to be had a period of unemployment last year we gave up smoking together - not being in work made it easier for him to break the habitual side of smoking and with both of us quit it eased the financial burden of unemployment too!! It also freed up time to go to the doctors to get proper help to quit. Would you consider trying again?

Oooh and Jo we aren't creative at all either :D I just watched a video on the m&s website about how to stack cakes and keeping the decoration super-simple - some of their ready decorated cakes are quite simply done but the price seems to leap up from the plain ones!!
