going to my first wedding fayre on sunday, there's a free goodie bag for every bride, so will be worth a look round even if it's just for ideas and inspiration.

it's actually being held at the first hotel we went to look at as our venue, which would have cost us £5000 instead of the hotel we ended up booking at £2300. So you could say that's very MSE indeed. :)
Ooooh hope you enjoy it!! Let me know whats in your goodie bag, hope its better than the one I got...a couple of leaflets and a pen! Although there was a table with some free wedding magazines on. Its also worth looking to see if there are any freebies for being the among the first brides to arrive. We got a free bottle of cheap bucks fizz for being in the first 20 :rotfl:

Steph, this one is a Bliss wedding fayre, so might be similar stuff. :)

I think they will be more like 10 times the price ;):D

We had a bridal fashion show too, although the little girl modelling kids bridesmaid dresses looked like she was having a strop every time she came out bless her!

  • Got my first pair of socks through today - I am buying one a month for all the men. So this months is the Groom and they are fab. Just plain black with word Groom on them, I am getting them for the 3 ushers, FOB and best man. I am also getting them cuff links with usher, groom etc on them again one pair a month.

My BM will be getting goody bags, so once I have the socks and cufflinks out of the way I will be getting their bags - just going to contain lip gloss, tissues ( i am counting on them crying cos I will look so good:rotfl: and if they dont I know for sure I will) and compact mirror.

This is why I like the fact I have so long till we get married cos i can do this sort of thing.

i agree jostenning I cant wait till New Years Eve this year and then at midnight I can finally say I get married next year rather than June 2014 and have people look at me like I have two heads as thats sooooooo far away but in money/wedding reality its not that far.

  • Hello everyone

Loving the socks idea mrsdtobe - might have to order some for my mr d!

just got back from the wedding fayre. a very similar dress to mine on the catwalk at ten times the price, so felt quite happy with my bargain.

the free goody bag contained lots of leaflets, a bridal magazine, a hair clip, bubble bath sample and a full size nail varnish, so was pleased with that. :T

Your goody bag sounds infinately better than mine!! Hope you got some good inspiration and met some potential suppliers. I'm glad you managed to grab such a bargain with your dress!!

I'm trying on dresses next week, hopefully one session with my bridesmaid and one with Mum! Hopefully they will be trying on dresses too...

I don't think I'd want a proper big pouffy fairy princess dress for the day but I'd like to try one on!

What do you recommend wearing to try on a load of dresses? What sort of underwear? And er...I take it the shop assistant gives you enough privacy? I'm a bit self conscious and wouldn't like a lady (even if she has seen a million women!!) seeing me in just my underwear!

(I'm not a 2014 bride, but I am nosing in in your thread!)

I don't think they will really give you any privacy - they have to help you get into the dress! I am self conscious too but the woman was so matter of fact about it I didn't care on the day. She even just whipped my bra off without asking! I did wear a pair of thick tights that came all the way up to my boobs (I am very short!) so my tummy was covered and I didn't have to stand there just in my knickers. I probably looked ridiculous but it made me feel more comfortable than standing there in knickers.

Other people may have a different experience, mind you. But in my experience, privacy went out the window! Most wedding dresses it isn't physically possible for you to put them on by yourself (and I don't think the shop would want you to try either, for fear of damaging the dress) so really, she is going to have to be in the changing room with you. So my best advice is to do as I did and wear some thick tights and a modest bra, so at least you're as covered up as you can be.

Have fun - it is great! I was dreading the whole thing but then I loved it on the day, and found my dress after trying on only 4.

daisiegg oh my!! Whipped your bra off without asking?! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience though, at least I know what to expect now. I will buy some BIG new knickers for the experience I think!!!! Or invest in some sort of flesh coloured full body stocking :rotfl:

Well done you on finding your dress in the first 4!!!! What sort of dress did you get? :D I'm really worried that my stupid height will make it difficult to find an off the peg dress, I'm 6ft tall without shoes, do they make dresses that long?? I had an awful time finding a ball gown a few years ago..
