daisiegg oh my!! Whipped your bra off without asking?! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience though, at least I know what to expect now. I will buy some BIG new knickers for the experience I think!!!! Or invest in some sort of flesh coloured full body stocking :rotfl:

Well done you on finding your dress in the first 4!!!! What sort of dress did you get? :D I'm really worried that my stupid height will make it difficult to find an off the peg dress, I'm 6ft tall without shoes, do they make dresses that long?? I had an awful time finding a ball gown a few years ago..

Yes - I hasten to add, I had a dress on when she whipped the bra off - I wasn't just standing there! I hadn't wanted to take my bra off but it was becoming clear that the dresses weren't really working with a bra, so she just took matters into her own hands...lol!

I'm the exact opposite... I'm under 5ft! :rotfl: I think you'll be fine - it's us shorties that have to get half the skirt cut off! They all seem to be incredibly long. Good luck and have fun!
  • Hi daisiegg and compbunny x

compbunny, I had a lot more privacy than I was expecting. I wore a sundress to go in, so it was easy to slip on and off.

When I chose the dresses they unzipped them and hung them up in the changing room, told me to step into them and then had to give them a shout and they came and fastened the back. So the only person who saw me in my undies was actually mym mum! Then they would undo the back and I'd go back in the changing room to step out of it and they just waited until I got dressed to take the dress back out.

The dress I ended up buying was in a different shop and because it had lace shoulders, my bra straps were spoiling the look of it, so she just said take your bra off and try it. It was just very matter of fact, not embarassing at all, she was just suggesting where I could get nude colour strapless bras from etc.

So try not to spend anytime worrying - either you'll have plenty of privacy like I did or if they do see a flash of knickers or bra, they've seen it a million times before and it certainly didn't feel embrassing. Enjoy! :)
  • I had a simmiar dress experience, I had worn a cream strapless bra & both shops kept saying 'well you've not worn the best underwear'...I'm not really sure what I could have worn that would be better, in the end they told me to take it off & try the dress without so I just took it off, usually I'd be a little bothered, but as I'd spent most of the day flashing my bum in dresses that didn't do up at the back I wasn't that bothered by then!

You ladies have made me smile imagining you all trying on your dresses trying to preserve your modesty but being chided or practically undressed! Although Jo's experience sounds a bit easier hehe.

Now, I think I've seen the perfect dress for me in a tabloid gossip article of all places....the Daily Mail, my guilty secret that I actually visit BEFORE reading the Guardian and BBC news:rotfl: Ssssh don't tell anyone:p

I love the material, neckline, straps, shape, train, everything!!! Does anyone know which dress this is? Or a similar one by the fairly common designer? I'd love to try it on...
EDIT: Its so pretty I'm going to make a new thread to see if anyone knows what it is!!

Thanks Jo, another user VERY kindly asked Nick Knowles about it on twitter for me!! Stunning dress but made by a pretty expensive designer in London and none available near me :(

I went dress shopping for the first time today with Mum. I only tried on 4 in total as I have ME so get tired really quickly but looooooved one that I tried on! Unfortunately its way out of my price range at about £1700 but it looked stunning on. Just lovely. It was a Pronovias Barocco http://www.weddingshoppeinc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/pronovias-bridal-gown-barroco.jpg , totally not what I would have thought of trying on but I liked the shape of the neckline and wanted to see what it would look like on me and ended up liking the whole dress!!! I'm still going to try on others in different shops of course but I will keep an eye open for it going cheap on ebay ;)

And thankyou for your help about preparing ladies, it was really useful ;) No bra whipping happened to me luckily, it was all very dignified!

It did!!! Even with all the pegs the lady had to use to hold it on! I am usually pretty darn critical of myself but in that dress WOW I looked like a princess, especially with the veil on! I'm so shocked I like the princessy dress most! But I have to forget about it for now, far too expensive. Even the veil was £170, I was planning on spending around that on a preloved dress!

    Hey Jo,

The keys were from ebay, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160858396975?var=460103874080&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 these were the ones we went for as samples and picked the mixed lot :) £2.60 for 10 delivered so not bad, although they took ages to arrive as they are from china!

I liked your idea of a prize draw using them! Thats definitely a possibility!
