  • Also, was thinking of the something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue thing and for the old part I've ordered a 1964 sixpence on a keyring, which I will hang from the ribbon on my bouquet, 1964 being my fiances year of birth.

I suppose it would count as an old item and also with sixpences supposedly bringing luck that would be a good idea.

The new bit will be my dress. :)

The borrowed bit, hopefully jewellery off my mum.:)

The blue bit - going to get the "I Do" blue crystals for the soles of my shoes - seen them on amazon for £1.99 :T
  • I love the sixpence idea, very very sweet!
  • Have also seen some "save the date" magnets on ebay which can be personalised, so I'm going to order those and maybe send them out 6 months beforehand, with the actual invitations going out 3 months beforehand.

    :)

I second the love for the sixpence idea! So thoughtful! Although I wouldn't emphasise it being your "old" item too much to him seeing as its the same age as him :rotfl:

That dress is beautiful too, really like the way the skirt swoops up and round :)

I'm enjoying looking at bridesmaid dresses more than wedding dresses (I'm worried about looking a bit silly in a girly pretty dress!) and think this one, in different colours, is stunning http://www.dressilyme.com/special-occasion-wear/classic-satin-sweetheart-a-line-frill-dress-1717.html That website has had some good reviews on the weddingbee forum too from people with 500+ posts so looks fairly reliable too...not sure whether I could bring myself to risk it though ;)

Really enjoyed the wedding show today, but was kinda disheartened to see Slimming clubs leaflets in the "free goodie bag" that each b2b got at registration and also a stand advertising cosmetic surgery. As my boyfriend said, if the guy has proposed to you he obviously thinks you are perfect just the way you are!! Fair enough with all the hair/makeup etc for the big day but it kinda felt like the tone was that unless your skinny and perfect you will be a somehow inferior bride!

Sorry, rant over. Just my views.

  • I got engaged last month, and we have tentatively said April 2014.

Have NO idea how to start planning, what to do - some of you seem so very organised!
  • I started off by googling 'Wedding checklists', taking out a load of things that they suggest which are taking things a bit far & then creating my own list of 'Must Haves' (eg. ceremony, photographer etc) and 'Would like to haves' (ideas of favours etc). I then started working my way through the list. We are really lucky that our venue has loads of recommended suppliers, so I'd say a really good place to start (once you have your list) is finding a venue & then other things might fall into place from there. x
  • Hello

Spent all of Saturday looking at dresses - had sort of decided on one, it was £650 on the tag but she said she could do it for £550, so I put it away. It was really a bit more than we anticipated, we were budgeting for around £300, but then reality hit as we went into various bridal shops, where it became apparent that we were looking more around £900+, even the sale items were around £450.

Anyway, I remembered one more bridal shop at around 4.30 on Saturday called there and she was just about to close, but said I was welcome to have a look. Most of the gowns were strapless - as with all the other shops, but I noticed on the back wall I saw a dress with shoulder straps. I just said can I have a look at that and it just happened to be a size 12.

Anyway, I tried it on, it was gorgeous - the beading on it was beautiful. It has a train on it and a sheer panel on the shoulders. So she said if I wanted to take it away, she could do it for £150!! I thought I'd misheard - it is the quality of some of the £800-£900 dressed I'd seen. So, I thought it looks great and really for that price I just had to snap it up. I also got the veil (which is embroidered with teardrop shaped sequins) and a head dress and the protective cotton bag for the dress all for a total of £300!

Of course, the only downside was I've got to store it in my mums. She told me not to try it on again until say a years time, to take it in for a fitting. Obviously it will need shortening, which she will charge £60 for and she will press it on the week of the wedding.

Felt really pleased with my bargain find!
  • AMAZING! Well done. I really struggled to find strapless dresses too. Fantastic bargain & it's great that you sound over the moon with it. Mine is hanging safely at my mums for another year too...must.not.look / try it on / wear it to watch DVDs!!! x
