what sad news. I'd send a card with a little message in it. Like Catznine - I have kept and treasure all the cards sent when my Dad died. I could never part with them. Just to know that people care means everything. x x x

    Totally agree lessonlearned

Same as when people have an operation never mind a long term problem...they send cards flowers etc and visit right after then abandon the situation and totally forget that the person needs possibly longer term practical help like lifts or shopping etc. I am still getting milk etc for bloke nxt/door who's leg is in plaster (hence all the strawberrys I have ) everyone else has peetered off and forgotten.

Thanks for all replies guys really appreciate it.and solid advice.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • Calico, I agree, wouldn't have thought this until I lost my mum, but cards really do make a difference and let people know you are thinking of them, without intruding. Such sad news.

Just wanted to say also L.Learned that I am sorry for your experiences with people,I'm sure lots didn't mean to offend, but did end up doing that non-the-less. I'm more of a hang back and pick up the pieces kinda person really ,which may end up good for this situation too as she will have lots to deal with right now.

There are some lovely people on this board aren't there!

Getting back to the fast, I found a great way to use up sausages, (came back with a few from the aborted boating holiday). Anyone else found the depression cooking you tube films with Clara the lovely american/italian grandma showing you how to cook "depression food" ? With her italian background the recipes are really tasty. Last night we cooked up her "poormans supper" and it was yummy and cheap!

    Poormans Supper
2 large potatoes, peeled and diced
1 onion, peeled, halved and thinly sliced
Saute in a frying pan in olive oil until cooked and browning
Add 3 tablespoons of tomato/pizza sauce
Stir through and then add some water until sauce has the right consistancy (thick enough to cover but not too runny)
Add 2 cooked sausages or hotdogs sliced thinly. Keep stirring until thoroughly heated through.

Serves 2 generous portions or 3 with salad side serving.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Deary me Calico, that's so hard to deal with wherever you are within the family / friendship circle - just letting it be known that you are there will make all the difference even if you can't be there or provide any practical support at this time.

Sorry to hear of your injury and ruined holidays Catznine, such a shame when you've planned these things and looked forward to them for ages. :(

I'm not actively fasting just now but trying to be 'normal' and buying only what we need for the time being and continuing to work my way through the oldest bits and bobs in the freezer.

Calicocat- You are doing the right thing just getting in touch with your friends.

Always seem to get to day 4 and seem to open my purse:eek:. Spent £8.54 today on things for pack ups so in the end I will be saving as the things I bought will last a good 2 weeks instead of buying lunch.
    16 packs of w~~kers crisps at 10p a pack:)
baking stuff so I can do hm cakes
cold meats (not essential but good price for large pack)
    whoopsie bread for freezer
w.u.liquid(can't scrape anymore out of bottle.)
and more cat food and cat litter. So now my target will have to be 9/10 days without opening purse. This is really making me think now before I spend :D
Hope every one else is having a good day, at least the sunshine makes you feel better.
Fiscal Fast = 7 NSD out of 9 days
    Avoiding the BIG4 = 12 days :) beg 5/5/12
    Shracknel & Road Kill Jar=£7.49 :j
All that i ask is a chance to prove that money wouldn't make me happy.

Back to the fast.....yesterday was NSD (6) and today will be as spending day cleaning and tidying flat (7).......so I will have done it.

Friend isn't opening cards or taking calls etc poor soul so will get and post this tomorrow.

So this means I still have £70 of my food budget for the month left, and hopefully I will get organised over nxt two weeks to using freezer stuff to finally get to de-frost it. On hols for nearly 2 wks so going to concentrate on this .

T.blonde.....it's often day 4 when I find I need or more often want something I haven't got......it's the 'day 4 bug' I'm calling it.

I doubt I will be doing this again this month as got so much on the nxt few weeks but will be cramming in as mant NSD's as I can...I'll need to as a lot of expense coming up.

I will keep reading how everyone is doing though, thanks for all support(fiscal and other yesterday).

Keep going everyone and "I'll be back" as they say as loving how much I save on here .

    Walk away from the purse:T

    Good Morning Everyone

BTW - meant to say to Catzine sorry you had to break your holiday - hope you are feeling better.

Thanks for the Poorman's Supper Recipe - I do a similar one with chorizo sausage. Cheap and cheerful.

Well I'm not going to manage 7 days this time.

Today is Day 6 and although I could manage I will be passing Aldis today so have decided to a do a mini top up - saving time and petrol.

If I am to stay within budget I have about £50 to last until the end of the month. I will have to go through the freezer and cupboards, do a menu plan, make a list and stick to it:rotfl:.

It's mums birthday today - need to buy her some flowers and take her to lunch - not counting that money as part of my budget though.

    Have a good day X
